Weird noise at iddle from SR20DET *video*

At an iddle, my engine or something in the engine bay starts making an odd vibrating/rattle sound. i have never heard a sound like it before. when it starts making the sound, a few seconds into its idle, it can be stopped by lightly pressing the gas and putting the rpm over 1k. in the video, it starts with the sound being made, then i put the camera on the hood and press the gas lightly and it stops. then i open the hood and a few seconds later it starts again. i did just instal a new air filter and it hasnt been running as well as it did before. if anyone has any idea that would be great.

That is weird sound.... I would do a thorugh engine check like spark plugs, pull the valve cover off cause that tappin noise is valve tap but sounds a little loud. O also check for exhaust leak, it might be that.... So turbo to exhaust manifold, see if you feel any air coming out of the area between the manifold and turbo....

ya it definately sounds like ya have a exhaust leak.

Do you have full exhaust hooked up? or just part of it?
i would fix the valve first. probably just loose but who knows.

Valves don't get loose... and you can't tighten them.... Depends on the video it could be just exhaggerating the valve tap, but sounds a bit loud to me... Just see if you are getting enough lubrication.

Well also you have it in an enclosed area so noises are going to sound different.. Take it outside AFTER you see if there is any exhaust leak near the turbo area and then take another video...

thanks for the responses guys

the video is not exhaggerating the sound, it is as loud and the same pitch as it is in the video. i will have the car out tommarow so i will check for an exhaust leak. its going into the shop monday to have all its fluids changed so maybe its just a lubrication issue like you mentioned. and it has a full 3" catback exhaust with 3" downpipe. the car came from japan so maybe they didnt do something right. while its in the shop it is going to have almost everything checked so i will see if they can find the problem

yeah thats nothing in your motor, that main rattling is deff something rubbing, I would check your exhaust first then maybe the IC pipes. does it do it while driving or just idle? (Exhaust near tranny mount is usualy suspect#1) but just go in the back of the car while its off and start shaking the exhaust and see if you hear a thud

alright, i am quite positive the turbo has been the cause of the sound. turns out the car has been running 14 psi on the stock turbo for god knows how long. since i posted this the sound has got a lot worse and the car is reallly starting to lag bad when you hit boost. so i am going to be swaping the turbo for a T-28GTi-R within the next few weeks. i will update after the swap...

yeah if you havent already, check out your compressor blades.

my friend's evo 8's turbo was making really weird sounds (similar in a way to yours) and he was looking at everything else but the turbo.

turns out the compressor blades were literally disintegrated. dont know the exact cause, but probably foreign object damage.

sounds like the downpipe rubbing against the frame rail. Mine made a similar noise when it did that and it was somewhat random. Or it could be rubbing against the steering knuckle, but your vid is too dark to tell.

yeah the rattling noise sounds like your lifters, bleed them and that other noise sounds like its your o2 or your downpipe rubbing on something.
