alright well i found a little rust the other day in my coupe i recently bought and i notice it kind of leaks water through the tail lights i think into the trunk...

but here are some pics of what i sanded

i was using 120C sandpaper, should i sand it more, until its completely the metal and no rust? ... i was told to put some silicone on the big circle seal since it leaks water in, and after i get all the rust out probably just going to spay rubber everywhere... anyone know any good spray rubber brands? haha

Ideally you want to take it down to bare metal but that would definitely involve a grinder with a wire wheel. Put some POR15 or Rust Bullet on there and you should be okay

You have to be on the METAL, no rust.

To seal your tail light, you can use cheap black silicone. btw, it's not that round rubber that's causing water to come in........it's coming from your tail light!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know its coming from the tail light, but my friend said moisture come up through that rubber seal so it would probably be best to seal that, what is the purpose of that seal??

To drain the water your taillights let in.

You might wanna invest in some naval jelly and apply over the trouble spots (after sanding), then paint the trunk with a rust preventative paint (like Rustoleum). I painted my trunk by rolling on Rustoleum Hammered enamel. The hammered paint has a nice texture that easily hides imperfections and using a roller helps further unify the texture. I then painted over the Rustoleum with an OEM color.
