valves problem

my valves just started ticking very loud i think..... and i have even run my car hard lately..... i drove it at 100mph for the last 2 days but i was not redlining......

Another possibility is your timing chain slapping, which also sounds like ticking.  I would lean more towards the timing chain slap if your chain has not been changed based on your high mileage.

The KA is notorious for timing chain slap at high mileage.  Sometime changing the tensioner "might" fix it, but most other times you will need to do a full blown timing chain replacement job.

any idea what a timing chain replacement should cost?  I have the same loud ticking and 180,000 miles on my ka.

is your ticking/slapping at idle? Or do you hear it all over... cause i have somethign fairly loud, can be heard inside when radio is off or outside from about 20 feet.. but it's only at idle. i have S13 with 86K

i did my t chain for about less than 200 but that was doin it myself and my employee disc.

i say save your money do it yourself but be prepared to have another car a=for back up

cause you might run into parts that you thought you didnt need

my whole front cover was shot the coolant passage was almost worn due to the t chain

if you have the dohc you can probably just remove the tensioner which is likely the cause but check the t chain freeplay if you do it yourself

if you have it done at nissan expect to pay around 6-800 bucks

look at it this way i did my clutch by myself in mygarage and i did the t chain iat work

both good money savers. imho
