Quick overheating question
so i bought an s14 which is overheating now its completly stock nothing has been changed on it. I changed the coolant and bleed it because it was overheating and after doing this its still overheating. I noticed the electric fan doesnt turn on. so my question is when does the fan turn on. also when i shut the car off and get back in after 10 mins and turn it on again the needle is on hot after it was recently in the middle, this makes me think something is up with the fan.

a certain someone recently fixed his overheating problem by remembering to turn the heater to "hot" when bleeding the system. Also, jacking the front of the car up helps create a highspot for the air bubbles to go to.

Indeed, make sure the system is properly bled.

check the fuses and relays for the fan? Could the previous owner possibly of put the fan on a switch you don't know about?

fans are not hooked to a switch. I did see it turn on before when i turned on the heat onlty but not now are they suppose to be on when the car is around normal driving temps also |

Hard wire the fans temporarily to a fuse and the battery ground to make sure they even work. Then drive around and see if it cures your problem. If it does then it is your fan switch.

a lot of people wire their electric fans to a manual switch even though they didn't come that way, which is why I asked the question about whether or not the previous owner could have done that without you knowing.

If it stays cool when drivinbg then its probably your fans. if it over heats right off the bat when you start it up in the morning and barley get down the road, then either therm stat not opening water pump not pumping or your using water by burning it up from bad head gasket or leak of some sort. check all and when in doubt use manual switch for fans |

im in the EXACT boat as you, bought an s14 and the fan doesnt kickin. first thing i tried.... turn on your AC, does it force the E-fan to start? my s14 came with a dual Efan and one is wired to the AC plug on the drier. next trace the line coming from the Efan to the line that goes straight to the fusebox. last night i took apart all the 'crappy' and melted electric tape and found the grounding to one of the efan came loose. thank you previous owner for using crappy vamp. taps instead of soldering like you should lol
