any one change their gear ratios? here are some questions?

has any one here changed there gear ratios, and if so, to what and how did it work out?
im thinking of playing with my first and second gear. instead of first redlining out at 30-33mph, how about 42-45.
and instead of second being about 60-64, how about 75-80,

my whole idea behind this is to keep the car in the power band for longer, or am i wrong? looking at dyno charts for many different engines and many different cars, most small displacement engines only push a decent amount of power at over 4k rpm.
i realize a car revving to hit 30mph will get there quicker than an exact same car revving to 40mph

im just thinking a car may reach, say 80mph, faster in 2 gears than in 3, taking into acount an extra shift

and to do this would i be better off just changing the final gear ratio and adjust all the gears?

is this even feasible with our cars, be it ka or sr. the whole point of the celica gts having 6 gears was to keep it in the power band more often after each shift.

this is just something i have been thinking about for a while, and i apologize for the rambling, any input is appreciated, if even to tell me im an idiot and too drunk to post, thanks anyways, matt

cars with big power and big powerbands can use tall gears. if you want to spread the gears a bit more, the Infiniti J30 VLSD (IIRC it's 95+ years) with a 3.916:1 ratio. That's 4% taller than our rear end (4.083:1). If you want taller, Nismo sells pinion/ring sets down to 3.63:1.

It's up to you, but you better have the power to back it up. Our cars are already slow with the stock gears and a KA24DE...you need a turbo.

can't answer the other questions but it would be better, economically, to change the gears in the diff than to change the transmission gears. i think you can get a set of transmission gears for about $2,200 or 3.7 final drive gears for $500

i plan on doing the j30 limited slip differential swap
