KA KA engine

I just bought a 95' KA motor to replace my blown 96' KA-T. I noticed that there are some differences and was woudering if I am correct and if so what would be the best way to make it work properly with the 96' ecu.

Thanks,
Ted

What differences? The '95 is OBD-I, and the '96 ecu is OBD-II. Also, I believe that the distributor system changed between those years. Other than that, I don't know.

You'll have constant codes bieng thrown, as well as an Idle Control Valve, which isn't on the 96+. OBD-II on the '96 leans out the idle mixture, whereas the '95 needs additional controls. You should either
a) Remove the intake manifold and all sensors from the '96, and hook them up to the '95 block. Then use the wiring harness from the '96 on the '95 block too.
or
b) Swap internals, assuming no cylinder wall damage. My block, that boosted to 17psi and shattered my ringlands, had absolutly no wall damage. Also, after 93k miles, there was no lip at the piston's top dead center.

Just went and looked at the two engines and I guess I will swap the intake manifold. I am going to start building the blown engine in a couple of months so I can run more boost.

Thanks Jeff,
Ted

The intake manifold should have most, if not all, the sensors that you'll need for the '96 ecu, with OBD-II crap. It should also remove the Idle air valve crap that would be redundant with the '96 ecu, and possibly cause you to run very, very lean at idle.
The intake swap is a great idea.
And no problem on the help. That's what a forum is for.

My car doesn't run right now. I blew it up about a month ago. It should run within 2 weeks or so.
I will also have an AFC, which has an atmospheric bov correction in it. I dunno how well it works. I've heard it works well enough to keep the car from stalling, which is all I can hope for.
