Check Injectors, Distributor rotor, MAF.
My brother's KA had a broken distributor rotor(bolt came loose, snapped the rotor into pieces). So, it made it sound like a Subbie. |

Yea at times mine does this as well. But it only happens to mine after going through 1st thru 3rd gear pulls and then it starts to bog. It takes about a minute before it runs normal again.

unplug one of the injectors, start the car... do this with each of your injectors (replugging-in the one you unplugged before your next one) and see which one, when unplugged, makes your car run the best. this injector would be your bad one
replace it. no need to buy all 4 |

Your problem could be something like bad gas from the gas station, (very rare - but it does happen....another possibility is a pissed off girlfriend & something poured in the gas tank). Or it could be something like a vacuum line came off, or broke, or melted....a cheap & easy fix. It could also be a bad electrical connection or worn ground wire, a dying Mass Air Flow Sensor, a defective fuel pressure regulator...which CAN mislead people into thinking a fuel injector could have gone bad. The best way to learn about your car and save yourself some money is to use the SEARCH function here on Zilvia.net & find a Factory Service Manual for your car. Download the FSM & read up on how to use your car's ECM / ECU (engine control module - the brain of your motor) to diagnose your engine problems. It's not always the answer, but it often points you in the right direction. If you can get your hands on a FSM and read the Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) that your engine is "kicking" & read them off your car, then we will have an idea as to where to start. If you aren't able to locate an FSM, then go to Kragen or Autozone & have them read the codes off your car for you. Last time I checked they would do it for you for free. Once you do, post them here & we'll try to help you out. Hope this helps...good luck!! ID

Before you go and replace that injector it could be other things.
check to see if your car is even sparking at that cylinder.(check this by taking out the plug from your dead cylinder while still keeping it attached to your plug wire, and then touch it to a ground source. If it sparks consistantly you know you have spark in that cylinder)at the same time pull off your cap and look at the cap and rotor to see if its in good shape with no carbon tracking or cracks next if that works go ahead and test for power to your injector wires. to do this you can get a volt meter. touch one side to ground and the other side to the red wire on the injector clip (its one of 2 wires, 1 is constant and the other is pulsating) if you have constant power, 'red', and the other wire is pulsating (i think it was from 0-12 volts) then you know there is power and a pulse. so if there is power and pulse you most likely have a bad connection at the harness or most likely your injector is clogged if you have constant power and no pulse you can jump the pulse wire from a good cylinder to that bad cylinder and if you notice the car running differently at all, you know you have no pulse. if you dont have constant power then jump the constant from another injector and see if it fires, if it runs any differently then thats your problem. in the instance that you do not have a pulse go ahead and pull apart your kick panel on the passenger side and take the harness off your ecu. after doing this get your volt meter and check for continuity between the prongs on your harness and the pulse wire on your injector (this is trial and error) so if you have continuity u know there is no break in your wire. if your at this step with continuity from your injector to your ecm, you know that you have a bad ecm. this happened to me. hope this helps |
