my decision...Help!

well i got a decision to make..and i dont know what to do really. ill type the story down below.

well some of you already know I picked up an S13 Fastback for free. well the car is finally finished. the whole car has been restored, panels pulled, bondo'd [heh] and a full paint job. here is the stats on the car

1990
173K
Salvage
5speed
BONE STOCK

the car is just sitting outside right now and I first brought the car home intending to register it as a Race Car Only. and with this car my dream of having an SR/RB can FINALLY come true!! smog is the problem but since its a race car only i dont have to worry about that.

i have a pair of SSR Mesh coming in soon for it as my first mod. and im looking for another set/pair as of right now.

as some of you already know, i Also have a S14. here are some stats

1995
111K
5speed
strut bar, whiteline rear sway, koni/sportline, INJEN intake, B&M short shifter, VLSD, 5zigen Typhoons, s15 conversion.

well i was talkin to my mom today about cars and shes finally not uptight about me fixing up my car. my parents know about cars but they DONT know about how JDM engines will pass smog. smog is a really big issue with them. well my dad knows some kid that is planning to do a 5speed/engine swap to his SC300 [Soarer] and he plans to swap in a JDM engine and ask my dad for help with the swap. well when i was talking to my mom i told her about SR swaps, about how much power it can make, how many people do it, about how im gonna race these cars. and she seems fine with it. well, she said "wait till the kid does his swap and if all goes well, you can do yours!!" NOTE: i will be paying for ALL mods as i have been!! my parents are only helping me with insurance, 50 50 split.

well the problem begins here. she said "since the s13 is salvaged, there really isnt a point into swapping in becuz it woudl be a waste of money. if ur gonna do it tranfer ur insurance over to the s13 beat around with it and fix the s14 and swap into the s14"

but if i swap into the S14 i wont be able to drive it around and would only be able to drive it if there is a track event. and with a SR i WANNA drive it around!

the problem is i wanna track BOTH cars. there arent many s14.5 drifters around and id like to be one of them. and at the same time i wanna track the s13. but i can only pick one due to financial reasons. as a college student i dont have the funds to fix up both cars. the s14 would be a good track car since it already have mods towards it, with the s13 id have to start ALL over again. making me spend More money than is needed. also, if i keep the s14 as a track car, my mom and i would have to pay for 2way insurance to insure the s15 conversion, which will cost me more. but with the s13 i will only buy 1way.

my brother said make the s14 as a beater and the s13 as a full project car since it will take a long time to finish it.

so which one should it be guys??? i just want ur opinions.

1. beat about with the S13 with basic looks, and use s14 as full track car and swap SR into s14. but track car cant be drivin. insurance cost will be low.

or

2. beat around with s14, and make s13 a full track car. track car will have a SR swap but cant be drivin..only at track events. insurace cost will be high due to conversion.

hopefully this makes sense.

Sounds like you really want to keep the s13 around to make your own personal project and something you can smile about when it's all said and done. Keep the s14 as the daily driver, and enjoy that it's done up a bit (your current mods), and slowly work at the s13 as your track car.

You can pass smog with the sr20, it just won't pass visual. You just need to slip the guy some coin to make it pass visual, or know friends in the industry.

Up to you, sounds like you've already done quite a bit of work on the s13 as is, so just keep it around to play around with and enjoy. A lot of us can't even afford to run two vehicles, so consider yourself lucky.

now this is a no brainer and I think your mom completely missed the point(that is unless she does not know your S13 is a salvage title)
Me thinks the S13 is the perfect track car due to the fact its a salvage title already. Do the swap into it specifically because its a track car. Plus even if you used it as a street car and it got hit after you had fixed it up bodywise the insurance company is never going to give you what you would have into it time and effort wise due to mileage.
I have first hand experience in this department . Thats a point you should make to your mom as to why its the perfect track car.
Plus you got it free!
Ok now that pretty much spells out that the S14 should be your daily driver like it has been.
I think these points would make it pretty clear to your mom on whats the wise choice.
track cars are meant to be beaten therefore it does not have to be clean title it does not have to absolutely cherry.
Most track cars are beaters. Ya they look good from 6 feet away but get up close to 90% percent of them and you will see battle scars and fast paint overs .i.e. salvage s13 perfect for track use.

Go S13 track and S14 for street. The S14 is a little more comfortable, looks a bit more modern ( i don't give a damn about that, but some people do) and the mods you already have are more than enough for a car that is strictly a street car. My opinion...

chinh.. i will have to go with everybody here.. just swap the sr into the s13. its an old car and perfect for a swap.. your s14 is runnign perfectly fine.. why would you want to mess with that? besides, with a track car, you can gut it out to the max and since its older, you probably wont mind if you get dings and dents in it.. you dont want to crash an s15 front end while at the track right?

koooo...thanks guys..ur opinions are what im looking for!!

after thinking it over while trying to do my hw [doh] i have come up with my plans.

S14: fix it up a lil bit more wiht a couple mods: new vlsd, subframe spacers, front sway bar

just a bit more so that i can at least practice drifting wiht it. since i cant be driving the S13 around, gotta practice with Something. but i think ill stop with those mods. its good enough to take turns already.

S13: well what else can i do but fix it up like mad.

again..since i cant be driving the S13, id HAVE to practice in the S14

argh! F this ****! ima track BOTH these bitches! haha jk! juss wanted to say that to make things sound dramatic! haha. im poor i cant fund two project cars. yet id LIKE to fund both cars, since both are so damn sexxxxxxxxxy
