anyone with a LS1????

im almost done with my build....got my engine put together and all the little stuff ready....but wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for gear ratio

one of my buddies is a long time camaro guy and he told me best gears he had were 3.70...he enjoyed all his gears and even downshifted from 6 to 4th with no problems

i wanna enjoy all my gears also...especially 1st

just trying to get some suggestions

It depends on which transmission you are using. I am using a 00 WS6 T56, MM6, with the stock 4.08 and I love it. However if you are running a T56 from a GTO, I would suggest a J30. Here is a chart that I found a long time ago.. should help you understand the differences.

General Motors Corporation Transmission Gear Ratios

try those links now.. fixed.

My opinion is just to run your stock 4.08 rear end and get a feel for what you want. It all depends on the owner. Tire size does play a small role in what you will want. I run 275/35/18 and its perfect for me. I feel that I can run through every gear no problem. I mean if I pull to 6500 in 5th its 160mph. I rev to 7200 so its more than I will ever need.

Ditch the 4.08. Second gear is useless. 3.69 works well, though if I had the option I'd go lower.
