Unhappy 89 Tranny

When driving, in 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th, my tranny sounds like its throwing something around, some times it sounds like someone dropping something into a fan and pings around. 4th gear is fine, Anyone have an idea? Changing the fluid would help? the tranny has about 220k milez on it :P I sure hope it has more left. Or is my tranny pretty much shot ? help me please

you need new or rebuilt tranny. your tranny may be rebuildable if you havent let it go to long. expect to pay no less than 700 for a rebuild. you can get a used ka tranny dirt cheap make sure it has fairly low miles and known to be good

Bearing failure. Pieces of ball and roller bearings are now floating around in your fluid, getting caught up in the gears. NOT GOOD.

Devious is right..the sooner the better. Find someone doing a swap in the Wanted to buy section of this forum and see about getting their tranny for a good price.

It would be nice to get one with as low miles as possible./

I know, alot of people say...it is just a car, be happy...but 240SX's are a kind of religion to some...and really, you can get a tranny, jack stands, tools and a floor jack and put it in for about 1/2 it would cost to let someone else do it and learn the whole time..

You may get another 30K miles out of it if you baby it..but that takes the fun out of a 240SX. I drove on NO bearings in a MAZDA truck for like 20K miles...what a racket it made...but kept on going, metal hunks and all..(until one of them went through the side of the tranny...then I patched it with JB weld and kept abusing)

If you want to unload it cheap, I am in South Florida...

At your miliage, you should expect it. How many times have you changed it's fluid?
