s14 Your opinion on this car...

Hey, as some of you may know (but probably not) i'm trying to buy a zenki s14. I know of one about 400 miles away, and I think it might be a steal, but let me know what you guys think about it.

1996 240sx SE for $5,400
73,xxx miles
Gold (eewwww!)
5 speed
Really $hitty looking aftermarket rims (I don't know what the previous owner was thinking)
"excelent" running condition/looks (or so he says)
recently replaced clutch plate (is this bad?)
No sun roof (good for me cause i'm 6'3" and i can say it's just one less option the car has)

The only problem with the car is that it was broken into and the driver's side door controlers (power windows/locks buttons) are gone. other than that...absolutely fine.

The best part about this whole thing is the guy doesn't know it is an SE. I asked him, and he told me it was a base model. But the pictures and the dealer show/tell me about the front and rear spoiler. It has white faced gauges as well which IIRC only comes with SE's.

So...what do you think about the deal. Now this is the price he has posted without any negotiations. I think i can haggle him down a bit with the few "problems" the car has.

Oh, one more thing...is it common to ask the seller to take the car to a mechanic of my choosing in order to get info on the car's condition? I would pay of course.

thanks to all who reply!
sorry for the long post.
Mike

Definitely a good deal, you lucky bastard. For that low mileage I'd pay 7 grand.

I am with GSU..5400 is a good deal..I would offer 5K since the door is messed up.

GSU is right..Cars in South Florida and Atlanta go really cheap. Just today, I saw 1999 Mitsubishi eclipse for 3699 (with a thousand dollar trade...so 4700 with 90K miles.

3 weeks ago one dealer had a half price from blue book sale on all cars over 100K miles. This means a 2800 dollar 2000 model Dodge stratus was offered. No joke. Imagine the horror of paying 15K for that thing 3 years ago.

no, chokudoriS13, the sunroofs on s14's were an option.

now that i look at this car, it may not be an SE, however it has an OEM rear spoiler, base cars did not.

The easiest way to tell would be to just look at the number of lugs, but the wheels that are on it now have a plate covering the lugs...oh well, i guess i'll just have to find out tomorrow.

this car MAY be mine in 5 days!!!

I say dont even worry about the lugs and brakes right now...even as a base model, that is a very cheap price, you better take it while its still there, some guy might offer him a price that he wouldnt want to turn away.

I have to go now, i just saw a car exactly like you described and i have to offer him a price b4 the other guy does.

I always liked the Gold color on the 95-96 S14s... the Silver moss on my S14a is my favorite 240SX color avialable.

Look for some of the other SE signs... like someone said... the lug count... color keyed mirrors... rear sway bar (I know these were all options in the S14a) I would imagine such is the same for the 95-96 models. Just be happy it's not a 5 speed. I looked for my car for around if not over a year before I finally got it. Good luck man!

I think i got pretty lucky, as of friday I just got a:
95 240sx SE
Aspen White
5 lug
5 speed
sunroof
aftermarket Pioneer CD player
custom leather seats (dirty and damaged)
minor left fender damage (W/C doing Kouki Conv.)
94,200 miles
dirves good and strong

For 3,200 here in Texas, loving the car and saving up for KADET powa.
Bottom line look for a good deal, but get one as soon as possible.

This is acctually my second post, and im liking it here,
former Spec V driver and thevforum.com member, hope to add to the community.
