![]() Hey just checkin in from the Chi Town area. Im new to this forum but am on others. I have a 1991 Nissan 240sx all shaved, KA24DE, Cold Air Intake, etc.... I am lookin for all sorts of things but the Thing I am most interested in knowing is the debate over which way on the motor I should go. Keep the KA or go with the SR???? I have been lurking and reading posts but just want some serious feedback. I would like to turbo the the KA and that would be about the same $$$$ as the SR????
Thanks GODFATHER Last edited by GODFATHER; 01-19-2004 at 10:21 PM.. Reason: Add Picture |

You should get an SR. KA's suck. Looks like a lot of whack 'n bash on the side of the car. Is that what prompted the shaved door handles?

First take off the stripes and the wing please. As for your question go SR. For the money you spend on turboing a KA you could have a nice SR. Thats just my opinion. Or go FULL TUNE NA KA!!! |

Well when it gets repainted the supra wing and stripes will go but the pic doesnt do it justice. the stripe has flames and ghost skull and crossbones in and out of it. I am into custom cars and trucks and this one I got and it looked like complete ass so I had to do something. The side was kicked in by some one who now no longer has front teeth. So any more flaming or do you guys have anything decent to add or information I could actually use.

Geez guys. He already said once he decides to do body work the supra wing and stripe are gonna go! Sportbike own, and as long as he doesn't have faux fur and neons in his bike (like my friend, ung!) then he won't wreck a 240
![]() Any more flames and I'm locking this thread. Constructive.. not destructive criticism. -Jeff

Oh and here is a pic of my bike (and ol lady) and no there is no fur on it just $5000 worth of paint.... Its different on both sides, 8" stretch, sway arm doubles as air tank for air shifter, all kinds of cool shit. I just want to do something crazy with my new toy any help from people that already have done shit to a 240 would be a + in my book

You may need to refresh after the animation.. something wrong somewhere and I'm too lazy to figure it out. No pics, but you can kinda tell it doesn't have to be a ricer car. -Jeff

anyway, ok... i'll try to make a decent contribution... i would go with an SR if i was you...for the following reasons: the KA does have potential, but the money you would spend getting it to reliably handle the turbocharging (i am basing this off the avg age and mileage of 240s around here) would be more then it would cost to put an SR in the car..i say this because if it was me i would not simply slap a turbo on a n/a motor with 120-140K+ miles...i would want to build internals and work on fine tuning the engine management system...this takes time and money...the time, honestly, is more important to me then the money...since it can be done for about the same price if you seriously bargain hunt..but the effort and time is money to me.. granted, the KA-T with simple FMIC, Exhaust, Intake, etc will produce more hp and tq vs a stock redtop SR...but with minor mods i like the SR's ease over the KA-T...there are not as many variables...replacement parts are pretty available these days and SR's are decently reliable and quite tunable for more HP should you want it... so i would choose the ease and quickness of the SR over the KA...then again i never did have much patience for anything... ![]() good luck with it... edit: and yes, my car was a POS.. ![]() ![]() |

Sorry you had to be exposed to this childish and immature daycare of a group. welcome 'godfather', and I hope you get the answers you need from the intelligent ones, not the ones bashing people left and right for a boost of self-esteem.

I slapped a turbo onto a 70k mile KA with no additional fuel, no ecu, no intercooler, nothing and ran 4.35psi for 6 months until the wastegate line blew off and I overboosted. I'll bet that for the $2200 in turbo parts I bolted to my engine (stock exhaust, stock everything but a turbo hanging off it) I would have made (reliably) what a stock redtop would have made. About 180-190rwhp. Orion made 250rwhp on a $2k kit with a hacked MAF. Ace made somewhere near there too. It doesn't have to be expensive. The elusive 400hp club is what gets expensive. As it does with an SR. And then bring up Enjuku at 544rwhp, or Secret Services with 539.4rwhp. And Enjuku has a few spare engines laying around for the race season, as does SS, becuase they know they're on the brink of destruction. SS doesn't know how long the sr will last, but is building a replacement as we speak. NOT A KA v. SR THREAD! Just saying, it doesn't have to be as expensive as you think. -Jeff

all good info and i completely agree with you that it can be done, done well, and done relatively inexpensively...but i did state in my post that it could be done for very close in price to the SR..
Quote:
![]() also i am biased as my last KA had 190K on it...so there was no way i would turbo that...and if you throw in the cost of swapping to a newer KA well then...you see where this is going... and the problem with not wanting to turn this into a KA vs SR thread is....... that was his only real question...lol.. ![]() |
