Side Mounting a Bottom Mount Seat

I did some research but didnt get a clear answer....hence the post.

I have seats which are bottom mounted and I am looking to get ideas on how to make them side mount so that I can place the seat at the lowest position possible. I want to keep the seats working with the sliders as this is going into my dd.

Just brainstorming (usually a dangerous thing) I was thinking about welding in an L-Bracket (90 degrees) to the side of the slider rail then getting Planted Low Seat Brackets to fit the seats into my S14.

Anyone do something similar and have pix or more information? Anyone do something completely different?

I haven't gotten around to doing it but I'm about to be doing the same thing to my car. I have an S13 and the original seats are side mounts and I'm going to cut the original brackets off that bolt to the floor and using some L-channel some welding expertise and an hour of throwing stuff around the garage get it all welded up with sliders. Either way if you want to side mount bottom mount seats you will have to drill holes in the side of the seat.

You will really have a hard time ... chances are, it will cost much less to sell your seats and get proper side mounts.

I have side mounts, they are mounted the lowest possible, and i still had to flatten the transmission tunnel to allow the seat go between the rails. I cant see how you are going to find the room to fit a bracket there.

I will give it a shot but if it doesnt work my uncle is going to have to custom fabricate me some low low low mounts for the seats. My issue is that that I am built like sponge bob....wide back and shoulders so most seats do not fit me comfortably. These seats, the R32 seats, and R34 GTR seats are the only race-style seats I have been comfortable in.....granted I havent been in every seat available. I dont want stock seats as everything else on the interior is getting upgraded.

Dont feel like spending cash on expensive seats especially when I got these seats for a HELL-OF-A-DEAL. Unless someone wanted to trade for GTR seats or the East Bear knock-offs

im 6'4" and with a helmet on it mad it impossible for me to fit in my S13 with a fixed back bucket seat bottom mount.

easy and cheap soultion....

i cut the hump out of the floor under the drivers seat (must be running a test pipe in place of a cat to do this). welded a peice of sheet metal in place of the hole. used 1" square tubing to weld in place for my back mount used 2" x 1/8"? steel flat bar for the front mount. sat in the seat, marked/drilled the holes, and bolted it all up.

the top my shoulder now sits at the top of the door. i think i was able to drop the seat near 5" from the factory location. it cost me about 20 bucks in materials and about 2 hours. i taught myself to weld just prior to doing this, and it turned out great!

and as a bonus, you can correct the seat position. because (correct me if im wrong) the factory location is about 10 degrees off of center from the steering wheel in USDM 240's

I was thinking about something similar JFOXX but was wondering if there was any safety concern with cutting the "hump"? I will be running a straight pipe between downpipe and the exhaust so the Cat is not of concern to me.

Any chance you have a picture of this mod and/or the final product?

Luckily I am only 5'8" lol so i dont have nearly as much of a height concern as you. But my concern with these Recaro seats is that they position me high enough to cause concern between the steering wheel and the height of my knees.

BTW I think I forgot to mention that these are the Mitsubishi Evo 9 MR seats.....which I have read always take some custom fab to get these to sit correctly on our cars.

jfoxx that sounds like a good idea. i think instead of cutting the whole hump out i'll just cut out slots for the square tubing and weld the tubing across the hump. thanks for the idea.

i only cut the hump out behind the brace that goes across the car. i will try to get some pictures up on this thread so you guys can see my work....
