First car possibility? New member

Hey all, my names Rob and I'm new to the forum. Im looking into getting a 97 240sx. Well the car i found has a KA24DE engine swap in it with 80k miles.Would it be a good idea to get a car with an engine swap? I know a mechanic who would be willing to look at the car for me. Another question, do you think insurance would be high for this car? I will try to get a quote from state farm soon also. Thank you for any feedback.

The car came with the KA stock...unless the original motor blew and they swapped in another KA.

Insurance depends on your location. Get quotes from various online insurance companies to get your answer.

Searching is your friend.

^ ok you should do a little bit more searching...

However, the KA24DE is the stock motor the came in this car. It is possible the the motor in it blew so he "Swapped" another KA24DE in its place. This doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, but i would have someone that is mechanically inclined to look over the car and make sure that the swap was done correctly. Do a compression test to see how the motor is running. Do a leak down test to see if there is any leakage anywhere... just go with the plan of having a mechanic look at it, if you trust them and they say its good and the price is right then why not get it?

Search...

What difference does it make if it is a 240sx, civic, mustang, or so on? Car is a car, if you have a shop that your family uses to do repairs on their cars, ask the owner/mechanic that your looking at a used car and would like them to check it out to make sure everything is working 100%. Basic used car buying 101. If the seller is legit they should have no problem bringing it to a shop of YOUR choice and having a mechanic check it out ON YOUR DIME obviously. From there you can check for leaks, major accidents, and other things that may need to be addressed. Now your mechanic can tell you what is wrong and advise you on if the car mechanically is good or not. Just because it has a swap doesn't mean it is bad, ask the seller questions, why was the motor swapped out? Who did the swap? When was it done? ETC... You get the idea.

Your getting FLAMED simply because all of this info could have been easily sourced online via Google or your favorite search engine.

Okay thank you for that. I just don't understand why it's a big deal to ask people on here who personally own the same type of car for some suggestions and help. I came to the forum because the people on the forums seems to know A LOT about there specfic type of cars. I didn't want to go on google and put in the wrong questions and get bad answers. That's why I came here.

yeah but when the same subject has been covered 28923789037572 times , it becomes a nuisance and annoying.... you want answers.... SEARCH FOR THEM BEFORE ASKING THEM... if you think they are basic questions... then they have been asked trillions of times...

Okay well I'm sorry. I'm new to forums and just found out about them not to long ago. I didn't know there was a search thing or the "small questions thread". My friend told me to come sign up and just start a thread. He didn't give me any other details. Now I know. Thanks for the people who actually helped.

Also why would we want to help you when you did nothing to research? You can't expect to be spoon fed all your life.

If you want real results do google searches first, then come here and say " Hey I used these search names and couldn't find anything, could you guys at least point me in the right direction?"

It at least shows some initiative and that your not the average noob who knows nothing.

I never said I wanted to be spoon fed. I just wanted to know what you all think about the engine swap deal. I wanted to hear other peoples opinions. I was just asking for suggestions and if it's a good idea to try and take a look at it. Is that really that much of a problem? If its really that much of a problem that people ask questions like this, why do you take the time to yell at them or even look at their thread?

Don't be offended. Its just the situation you are in. You don't know anything about the car, and neither does the seller.

Drill the seller for information... then post it here for comic relief.
