What options do I have for my HKS cams? (pics)

The car/motor itself had been sitting for a while. It was started and ran not too long ago.

I open it up to find this-

I had one guy say not to worry about it, another said to get some material he named and get it smooth.

are they cams done for? or am i still able to salvage it.

and while i'm at this-

what HG do i have?

Usually there are tabs that have the type. All i know is that this is a metal one.

You need new "guys". That cam is done and will eat rockers. No "filler" will fix it and it will only continue to shed metal bit into the engine the longer it's run..

As for the headgasket. WTF it matter. You'll find out if you pull the head. Other than that, if it's working leave it alone.

You might also want to make sure oil is coming out of the squirter above that spot.
If not you can clean it out. I've never seen that kind of damage before, so my best guess is it was actually defective metal in the cam (unless the cam oiler is jammed up).

I forgot to say, that I would still take it to a machine shop and see what they say...but its possible they could fix it but for more than a new set of cams would cost.

Can't repair. Camshafts are hardened after originally machined.

Regrind cams are parkerized for protection but will not last as long as a new cam.

Rotate the cam and examine the rocker! It doesn't look like that lobe was damaged by that specific rocker arm, if any rocker arm. Normally the damage is all the way around the lobe accompanied by the "stupid, hey you clacking sound!" (It means, check me!)

you should find out what caused this cam wear, it doesn't look like an oil starvation so it can be any external objects like metal debris. you can kill your new cams if its still there.

actually, in fact there was a very abnormal ticking sound within the head.

somehow, one of the shims from the rocker arms had fallen out, and was bouncing around, when the motor was started a long time ago, after it was sat for a period of time.
