![]() i recently changed the clutch and everything went well. Got the tranny in and everything and bolted it all up. Now after a while i hear a clicking but then it goes away.... so i guess that problem is solved BUT NOW! my tranny is pretty damn hot. I already searched about it but this guy had a tranny that was scorchin hot. Now my question is..... is it normal for the armrest area and the area between the seat and the side of the ebrake area to be warm/hot? Basically the hot spots are shift boot, the area where the ash tray and shifter are, and the driver side of the center console.
Does anyone have the same problem? Did i mess up on the tranny job or whats happening? I just checked my tranny right after i felt the warmth and the tranny was pretty damn hot to touch. (after driving for about 40 miles or so). it felt like it was comin from the bell housing and goin down to the driveshaft. Could it be the new clutch and its adjusting or something? is it safe to take the car to the track still? PLEASE HELP CUZ IM GETTIN WORRIED ABOUT IT! ![]() |

dude... i have the same problem. my 240sx always gets hot in the center console and by my right leg. it makes it damn hot to drive in the summer but i haven't had any seroius problems with it in the past 1.5 years. while under the car i noticed alot of grease... possibly tranny fluid. i thought maybe that was heating up the area as it must get pretty hot while driving around. i have no clue how its getting splashed around though. my car leaks shit like everywhere though.

hmmm any other opinions? I asked my auto teach and he said that it could be the heat from the engine and since the downpipe and cat are right next to the tranny, that could cause it to heat up a lil. He and i both agreed that we should find out till after I break it in.
Azn: since u also have this probably, did u ever go to the track with the tranny in that condition? I dont want mine to break down on me while goin into a turn. ![]() |

soo i found some new problems....
tranny is extremely hot and so is the area right next to my right left. Floor is fine i think. Once i turn off the car and let it sit for a while i smell burnt rubber in my car. If i step outside i smell burning rubber. I open my engine bay and sniff around and find the smell near the headers and the rear of the intake mani. and it smells like burning rubber/plastic. What could the smell be? My tranny gets pretty damn hot so what could it be?(coming from the bell housing). Anything rubbery in that area? |

no i've never tracked it like that. the only time it gets hot enough to notice is after a couple of hours of straight driving, and it has to be fairly hot outside too. it sounds like your problem is quite a bit more serious then mine. btw its perfectly normal for the tranny to get hot... theres alot of moving parts and friction in there.
to be honest i always thought i had an exhaust leak b/c i get some very minor backfiring while engine breaking at very low rpms (1.5kish). maybe you should check for leak somewhere down there? hot air blowing against the bottom of ur car will def heat it up over time. i find cruising at low speeds will heat it up faster then driving on the highway. |

that makes sense... the cat is right under the driver seat (stupid bump in the floor). yet another reminder the car was designed for RHD. thanks uiuc... u might've solved yet another problem for me.

My car does the same thing. i took my shift boot off so their is just the rubber around the shifter. You can feel warm air coming thru where the rubber shift boot connects to the shifter. When its cold out you can feel cold air. Im assuming this is ok because i havent had any problems with my tranny. (knocks on wood)

hmmm i think that is probably the source of all my problems.. THE DAMN CAT! i hear rattling whenever i drive and accelerate....soemthin could be loose in the cat that makes that noise. Plus i think it is a leak then cuz the stupid shop welded my cat last time and now its all deformed and shit. Probably gotta go to the dealership or somewhere to get a new one. damn. Could this also cause the egr CEL to go on too? Ill check it out 2m. thanks
o yea clutch is brand new and looks fine to me and alot of other ppl. Now that i think about it.... i took off the heat shield from the cat a while ago. Thought that could be why its rattling but it wasnt and didnt bother putting it back. That's probably it then. |

you can leave the heat shield off...but the cat could easily be the problem. my advice?
get a new Catco cat from an online shop, then take it to a REAL exhaust shop and have them cut out your old cat, weld new flanges on your old exhaust, and bolt the new cat in place. you should NOT have to weld the cat in place, nor should you have to cut it out when it's time to replace it. gayness. let us know how it goes. i can take the cat off now and stuff but the flanges on the cat r completely deformed. Im about 80% sure its exhaust leak thats aimin at the tranny to warm it up so much. Reason why i smell burning rubber and exhaust fumes often. Plus the heat is directly above the cat so thats probably it. Anyway i can clean this cat out?
