Is it a style/form of drifting? Or some type of specific drifting event layout? And if you search gymkhana on the internet, it's all about riding horses?

I ask b/c a friend told me that the local track has a drift event today. The track's website says Gymkhana practice event-$20. I'd like to know what I'm going to beforehand. Thanks.

gym•kha•na

1. a field day held for equestrians, consisting of exhibitions of horsemanship and much pageantry.
2. Also called autocross. a competition in which sports cars are timed as they travel on a closed, twisting course that requires much maneuvering.
3. any of various other sporting events, as a gymnastics exhibition or surfing contest.
4. a place where any such event is held.

so basically it can be anything!

i've seen it as something similar to autocross, with cones and stuff, but the course is WAY more technical and may reqire doing circles around a cone and other tight maneuvers. it is usually at a lower speed than autocross.

Yeah, "gymkhana" typically refers to an "old style" autocross which is more a test of specific driving skills than general performance driving. The goal is still to complete the course in the fastest time, but it's more of an obstacle course than a road course. It's still popular in places like Japan where they don't have many HUGE empty expanses of blacktop like we do... they can be held in tighter spaces.

Calling a parking lot drift event a "gymkhana" is kind of inaccurate since it's not timed.
