![]() i just bought a car. it has a small electrical problem. i dont know what it is. nothing in my car works when the key isnt in the ignition. when the key i take out the key everything resets like the clock and radio. does anyone know why this is happening. i checked all the fuses none of them are blown. i read that it could be a bad ground. i dont really know electricals so can anyone help me on locating that bad ground if it is. or if this has happened to anyone can they give me more info on it on which ground it might be or something
-thanks |

Retype that so it makes sense please.
It's not a ground, the radio and clock share a ground path with several other components. It's a fuse, check the ones under the hood too.

did you have any kind of stereo or alarm installed in the car? Sounds like the memory wire under the dash is not connected. I believe it's the red wire, but don't quote me on that because it's been awhile since I've been messing around under there. I know that's what your problem is though. Get a wire diagram, and open up the steering column. It'll be loads of fun.

o well when i bought the car it the owner didnt have a radio in it. it probably did have a radio. theres a old led light for a alarm but no alarm inside it. so im guessing it could be the memory wire. ill try to look for the memory wire. lol i have no idea how to work electrical so if you find it before me please give me a heads up =)

The constant lead is orange/green behind the radio. See if it has power, if so then there's a problem with the radio itself.
