s14 What is the red hose on SR20DET transmission?

It seems that a lot of us are having transmission problems today. It could be temp related as the weather just turned cold. My S14 SR20DET has suddenly become hard to shift. First gear at dead rest is the hardest. I've checked the clutch fluid. I replced transmission fluid 1 yr ago with redline MT 90. The old fluid was pretty clean. Should I replace it again? I've noticed a red hose on the side of the transmission that is not hooked up on one side. What is that for? You can see it in these eBay photos. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
I'm worried I may have bad synchros. Are S13 and S14 transmissions interchangable?

Yah its the tranny breather. Iono as far as i know my SR tranny acts exactly like my KA tranny. Theyre both a bitch to put into first gear specially when theyre cold. Yes S13 and S14 SR trannies are interchangeable. Only things is the S14s have better gears *stronger* S15s would work to but the whole speed sensor in the diff is just a pain in the ass.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like my vent hose is hooked up properly on one side. I've found that pumping the clutch 2 times makes it easier to get into gear, but I'm also having trouble with 4th gear. I really think this is related to the cold weather. I might try to live with it for 2 more months until it gets warm again in FL.
