Auto Tranny Problem 97 kouki

I just bought this 97 kouki with 82k miles. I noticed wierd idling and a little bit of noise comeing from the tranny.

Today i looked at the fluid in the tranny and noticed it was brown in color. ( I know this is bad) Last nite for the first time i put it in nuetral and it made grinding noises. Does this mean i need to replace the whole tranny or some in parts in it. Im going to go get a tranny fluid change now and see if that helps it.

Would this casue my idling to be funny from the tranny being messed up> Casue my idle after the car is warm when ever i throw it in N or PARK the rpmms goes to about 1250, then trying to put it in drive the tranny grinds lighty and jerky to get in. Which might have been casue of it being messed up.

but i also noticed when in first gear it sounds like when you put a car in reverse and go fast. then its qquite after its out of 1st gear.

Anyone know anything.

THanks...

not sure on your problems. but you can get a auto tranny very cheap off the forums. easily under $100 bucks. probably easier (and cheaper) just replacing it rather then rebuilding it (if indeed the problem is with your tranny).

Nissan Auto tranys are picky bitches when it comes to fluid. Take it down to the Dealership and have them power flush it(~$140) with all new fluid. If this doesn't fix it dump it and get a new tranny. You may as well do the 5 speed swap.

I have an auto tranny out of a 97 240sx that has about 81k miles on it. It has a bent cooling pipe but you can reuse the one out of your old one with little fabrication. It's yours for $10 if you can get it out of my backyard
