Yup they sound dope. They're the 3ways, I got em off ebay for around $120 shipped. I made some plexi baffles to mount them in and just wanted to share a few pics I snapped... BTW the plaid lookin stuff is 1/8" thick foam tape, it's on the back side of the glass. It causes the plate to seal good against the metal door skeleton, and the foam also eliminates any resonance they might have otherwise....

They sound 1000 times better than the blown 4x6 shit that was in there. They clear the window and door panel with ease. I'm sure someone out there is thinking of doing something like this too, I say go for it you will not be disappointed.

Is anyone interested in a set of rough cut 1/4" plexi baffles? I made four and used two, so I have a set of rough cuts if someone wants em. You still need to sand down the edges a little (use a dremel with drum attachment), drill mounting holes (marked) and cut out speaker hole (I didn't cut because u might wanna go with 5.25"s instead) and drill speaker mounting holes............ PM if interested.

hmm i have done that already... infact i put in the perfect 6.1's in the front... any plans on doing the same mod to the back 4x6? if you do manage to to get 6 1/2 to fit in the back 4x6 slots then i will be sure intrested in buying the plexi baffles from you

This has been done numerous times but we usually use crap like I did (its not even MDF, i dont know wtf it is but it sucks)

I will take some pics tonight for you to see. Basically they are just like said above, so you know you'll need to do *some* work on them. They are DIY style

- sand edges down (i'll scribe the line from my template so u know where to sand to)

- drill four bolt holes to mount baffle (i'll draw center marks)

- cut out hole for your speaker. Mine needed a 5" hole and I adjusted the ring (front/back + up/down + clock) so that none of the screws would touch the metal door skeleton..

- drill holes to mount your speaker.

Tool wise for a minimum you'd need a drill, and a dremel. I'll even send u a bunch of the foam tape I used, u can cut it and apply it to the back to make em seal up well against the door...

How about I'll ship em to you for $25? edit: I see you're in Eagle Rock, by glendale/silverlake right? I'll deliver em this weekend for that price. PM me if you're interested..

I am going to ditch the 4x6s in the back. I have an idea on how to put 6.5s back there, but it needs some more think time. I haven't even really examined the back area yet, but what I'm thinking of right now would move the speakers out of where they are now in the fastback.

Regarding components, of course I would love to have a set of decent components up front. In fact originally I wanted to do a 3way setup by building some glassed kicks for some 4's and tweets and 6.5s in the doors. There is very little foot room as is, so with that in mind I went this way. At best I'll mount a set of tweets up front either in the door panels or glassed into the a-pillars. I am not building the car to win any sq contests, and frankly this ride really isn't worth a crazy install. I do love listening to music while I drive about so this suits my needs perfectly...

The only other things I want to do audio wise are a glassed box in the rear right in the trunk, with a single 12 and ~500w amp to drive it. I might try going with a new-to-me respected brand, something like an adire brahma or shiva.... Perhaps a 4ch amp to drive the fronts and rears. Perhaps sirius... My plan is to eventually install the kappa 6.5 three ways in the back as rear fill, and replace the fronts with 6.5 components and tweets as described above........

What material did you use if it's not MDF or plexi? I used plexi since the door gets fairly wet during the rain and MDF would probably rot or fall apart after a few years. Also the plexi is 1/4" not 1/2" like the MDF, since I knew door panel and window clearance might be an issue. The plexi is strong, easy to work with and thin so it has lots of clearance...

Nice!!!! I'll be doing this shortly with componets, but I plan to run 6 x 9's in the back, built into the top of my 10" sub enclosure. Should sould great reflecting off the hatch glass.

so what if dust/water get on the rear of teh speaker?? reason i didnt make my own plates was becuase the speaker will be shooting towards your feat.

I cut/hacked the stock plates adn stuck 5 1/4 inifiniti woofers and warpped em in speaker baffles, then tweeters on the door covers.

They make these foam baffles that you can install with the speakers. Everyone (crutchfield, partsexpress, etc) seemed to be backordered on them when I put this together, so I don't have them... yet. I think it would be very very wise to have them, since I did some of this work after driving the car in pouring rain, and yes it gets "very" wet in there...

The speakers obviously aren't aimed very well but they still sound alright.. 5.25s sound probably close enough to the 6.5s anyways neither have much bass especially when they're crossed over. I thought about using them too, I like that you recycled the stock plastic baffles

Lucky for me I have a coupe so I have 6.5 all around. Sounds DOPE.

Gjohnson7: when you put in your 6x9's mind showing us a couple of pics? do you plan on inserting them into the rear deck?

I myself hope with the help of some of yall to be able to place 6 1/2 where the rear 4x6 go and place in some 6x9's in the rear deck and have a 400-500 watt amp to throw in some extra power
