Anyone Who ever had SR rod knock

It was brought to my attention last night that Sr's MAY have a problem with the #2 cylinder having rod knock.

A friend was telling me about how his friend threw a rod on his sr, on the #2 cylinder. They got a replacement n/a SR block from an AUTOMATIC sentra. When they pulled the head off they found that it also had a bad rod bearing in the #2 cylinder. Last Saturday at the racetrack my friend Luke(Blu808) threw a rod on his SR, and i believe it was also #2. Does anyone have any info about this problem or is it just a coincidence?

Did your SR throw a rod? What number cylinder was it?

I didnt do a search. forgive my laziness.

This is a widely known issue with FWD SR20 engines. It seems that most of them spin the #3 bearing but #2 happens also. It's not a "daily driver" problem, usually happens as a result of high RPM plus oil starvation. The result is that most of us run synthetic oil and check it OFTEN.

If you want more info head over to www.sr20forum.com and search for "spun bearing" or "rod knock" and you'll get a ton of hits.

Hope that helps.

FYI - you can get a low-mile JDM engine for under $500 (sometimes under $400) from Soko and a few other suppliers. They're usually quite reliable and most of them come from automatic tranny cars, so they're usually not beat-up.
