I'm planning to buy a Stage one turbo from Nsport somewhere this year. So i was wondering how many of you guys installed yer turbos yerselves? It's a stage one kit (I wonna try putting it on and then upgrade all the way up to stage III if it works out, but i ain't got the money yet for Stage III ), so there is no computer upgrades needed. My question was is it hard to install? What were particularly hard moments? Also for those who had a shop do it for you, how much did u guys pay? Thanx alot.

It's not exactly a SIMPLE job, but it's not that difficult either. A kit should make things much easier for you (no need to guess what size injectors to run, etc.) I would say just things like running your oil line into the stock pan, mounting the intercooler, and those kinda things would be harder for people with limited car experience...if you were from NY, my shop would be happy to do it for you!

Good Luck!

Well, that's why I want to get the nsport turbo kit. They are now going to include modified oilpan with the kit in exchange for you old oilpan. And the downpipes aren't going to be unassembles anymore... So there is none like extremely tough spots? I was working on my friends camaro with him so i know my way around the car, but i never dealt with turbos Hope it ain't gonna be hard.

P.S. How much does your shop charge for installation, v8killer?

the fmax does come with instrustions now!
the stage 1 turbo kit uses a t3/t04b w/a stage 3 turbine and .48 a/r
the stage 2 turbo kit uses a t3/t04e w/a stage 3 turbine and .61 a/r

fmax is the way to go!!!
difficulty has to be rated a 5 out of 10, pulling the motor out to get ready for stage3 is a 9 out of 10,
trust me, its alot of agrivation but it pays off at the end(hopefully)
right know i put everything togetther and the worst has happened, it doesnt run!!!

life sucks, then u die!!

Hrm.. I'm confused now.
On f-max's site it says that they use t3/t4e for their stage 1 turbo kits. Nsport uses t04b Garret turbo. Which one is more powerfull? Ofcourse if someone would explain me how to read these Comparison Maps it would help, plus i won't ask these stupid questions Thanx.

well here's the gig with Fmax and Nsport. If you drive a S14 then Fmax has a pretty good setup. Yes they use a T3/T4 hybrid. It spools up fast but chokes off at higher boost and rev's. T.Y. could tell you about this.
Now some people dis Nsport but they have a good setup too. For different reasons. For one if you own a S13 Nsport has kits for you. In fact they are one of the few who do. the other thing is Nsport will sell you parts seperately if you want to do a custom setup. This is cool. they also use a T04b hybrid which is a larger Turbo than a T3/T4 hybrid.
In there words there is more horsepower potential with the T04b and it won't choke off. Downside if any is a little more lag on the bottom due to larger Turbo . Now with our cars that is not to much of an issue because we have decent low end torque to begin with.
A lot of people don't like Nsport because they use a RRFPR with an FMU.
Fmax use's JWT ECU upgrade. Both companies provide larger injectors on stage II setups. I believe Fmax does on stage I as well.
Both companies use replacement higher flow fuel pumps.
Nsport use's a Turbonetics Deltagate on their stage I kit some people dis this particular wastegate.
Fmax uses a custom welded manifold , which can crack
Nsport uses a RevHard manifold which is cast and less likely to crack. Again some people have had their revHard manifolds crack ,but the same can be said for the welded manifolds.
I know someone who has a Fmax kit and manifold and likes the Revhards better.
YMMV
Ok all said and done I own a S13 and I am going custom . I am blending the best of both companies.
My setup will be as follows
for the time being I will run a T3 limited to 7lbs boost(later upgrade to T04B)
RevHard manifold from Nsport
Intercooler piping and downpipe from Nsport
370cc Injectors (later going to 550cc)
TT Fuel pump
Starion style Intercooler from JGS Turbo's
JWT ECU upgrade
oil lines and pan from Nsport
Blitz blowoff valve
still deciding on my Wastegate.
there it is
this setup because I am sourcing some of the parts myself is probably going to top out around $2000 maybe less we will see.

hope this helps in your planning

all of this is to much trouble... just bolt in an sr20det and go! ok, it isn't that easy but there is alot more potential.

drift freaq, what do u mean 'upgrade to T04B'? Does that you are gonna change the whole turbo? or just the exhaust outlet? And sorry for a dumb question, but how exactly does wastegate work. I know it's there to reroute the exhaust gasses so they won't go inside the turbo... but how can it make it dangerous?

actually its not to much trouble and fact is you can get over 300rwhp on 14lbs of boost on a stock KA and there are people out there doing it as daily drivers .
SR20DET's are cool but the argument of them having more potential is pure fantasy.
the engines are pretty much equal potential wise with the KA edging out the SR as far as hp to boost ratios i.e. a SR at 7lbs of boost puts out 205HP a KA at 7lbs of boost puts out around 240HP hhmmmm
as far as upgrading it means I will replace the T3 with the T04b for more boost potential.
As far as wastegates go the only time they can be dangerous is when they don't operate properly.
People have said the deltagate does not hold and allows boost to run up which can blow up your engine.
