I dont know personnally, but my coworker next to me is saying:
"auto ecu's normally have different tuning in ecu, mainly because of torque converter stator(torque multiplication) and 4th gear lockup. other than that, main componenets (other than AT stuff) is same." dont know if that helps, i wasnt gonna post but he wanted to add that, from my little brain ill say... dont forget to wire ParkNeutral SSwitch to park or car wont even turn over, and have clutch switch so u cant turn car over without clutch pedal depressed. no place to put clutch pedal "intuition" switch wire, but im not even sure MT have that on 240's. reverse lights gotta be wired... can someone confirm, do we have a shift lock out? i remember reading once that if we dont power certain solenoids 5th gear is locked out(doesnt make sense to me), normally shift skip is for six speeds where u skip 4th and jump to sixth at part throttle, but i cant remember whats what. |

I've been using an auto OBDII ecu in my manual swapped s14 and have only had problems with the car turning off when starting it up. Does having an auto ecu cause the car to be slower, faster, run better etc? I took the check engine bulb out so if it just simply about throwing wrong codes then i'll be ok with the auto ecu.
I do notice that when I shift into 5th gear at 50-55mph, i feel the car vibrating when stepping on the gas, it stops when i reach into 60mph+. I usually go into 5th gear at 60mph because of this. |

i've got an auto OBD1 ecu in my manual swap s14 and I have the same problem of the car turning off when starting if you don't give it gas. i'm also wondering if having the auto ecu is hurting or helping? like gas mileage, slower, faster, etc... anyone have a definite answer?

i had no problems with my s13 auto ecu 5 spd swap, but in order to get it to work there is a harness under the main relay box in the engine bay that has to be cut then spiced together. like u do when u wanna bypass ur clutch pedal sensor, so u dont have to push in the clutch to start it, it does the same thing. makes the ecu think that the brake pedal is pushed (auto) when its not. otherwise the s13 auto ecu 5 spd swap wont start. took me 2 days to figure out what the prob was.

auto and manual ECU's are only a concern for s14's OBD2..... with s13's... the ECU doesnt matter you can use any of them.. just as long as its sohc engine with sohc ecu and same with dohc...you will throw a code if you dont wire the tranny correctly but thats it.......
if you have a OBD1 s14 i bet you can get away with using a auto ecu with a manual....... but take your chance with that one.. |

the auto ECU will work on your 5-speed swap, but look for this:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=74615 ... to be an issue, simply rectifiable with the replacement with a 5-speed ECU |
