Do i REALLY need that BOV?
po po around my area have really been crackin down on people with motor swaps and such and i really would hate to get my car taken away and at the least a ticket. the most obvious sign of a swap to them is that sound of the blow off. im running a stock black top with an s14 turbo at 7 lbs daily.i have a spare hot pipe that has no flange for a bov. could i jsut run with out the bov? with no damage to the turbo? on race nights i switch to the potato and i can use the blow off but im just too scared to drive with one for now.

i have an old school bov. its the HKS super vlow of valve. how do i recirculate that? can someone send me a pic or intructions? plus im not boosting around cops.. they just try to catch us. you know how that goes. i dont drive like a jack ass and my car looks stock minus the wheels and the exhaust. so how do your circulate again?

Use a factory blow off valve. Like a 1g eclipse unit, recirculated.
Recirculating is a tube going from the blowoff valve to an intake pipe. Some people use the air intake tube, others go from the cold side piping to the hot side. -Jeff

The stock recirc valve + piping would be best if you are only running stock boost. You can usually pic these up cheap from eBay or vendors who handle clips like Heavy Throttle. I used to have this in addition to and open atmosphere BOV, and would reroute vac lines to switch back and forth depending on my mood. Stock setup for better performance, or open atmosphere to impress the ricers and scare old ladies. I finally got rid of the stock setup and recirc'd my Blitz BOV when I raised my boost level. I still get "goose honk" through the cone intake.

just learn how to drive. im running 13psi with a greddy type s and i can rev up to 4k and shift without the bov noisy. you just got to learn how to drive your car. just dont drive with a heavy foot and youll be fine!

i dont run a BOV anymore
its for pussies i get comprsssor surge its about 80 times billion cooler then a BOV and no pos hanging out in my engine bay turbine life? my friends have run no BOV for over 3 years on turbins and never a problem no recirc oto mark slide squad 400+ HP RB25 runs no BOV and tracks it and daily drive sometimes too, NO bov, no problem i run mm .7 bar right now, soon to be 1 bar when i put my FMIC on this week. |

ok well the only thing is that im not trying to break the turbo cuz... im broke! anyhoo compression surge = good? never really put the 2 together. tight.
if dousan is doing it... it must be right! er... or was it wrong? i gotta ask my mom again. - ![]() btw i normally run the car at 14lbs. i just recently switched it back to 7 becasue i couldnt afford it. i think it saves gas this way? i dont know

If stock ca18's dont run BOV's from the factory, that should be at least a little reassuring that nothing bad will happen...right? I installed a blitz BOV last week, and know that I have the "whooshies" out of my system, I will probablly be taking that shit off. I remember my car being so much more responsive after a gear change with no blow off.

what is this goose honk that you speak of? Does anyone run a stock airbox and just recirc. directly back into that? If you were to fab your own intake and IC piping, where would be the ideal place to recirc to.....as close to the compressors inlet as possible? |

the main thing I got out of the whole bov thread on freshalloy was that it matters on your turbo wheel. The bearings will generally take it no matter what(ball bearing or journal) but what really f's it up is that the air almost tears at the intake wheel extremly violently. It bends the edges back and forth and you will get little chips. This matters more on cheaper turbos, newer turbos in the gt series line have stronger/lighter material wheels so they handle it better. The air also does not compltetly stop the turbo as it surges backtowards the compressor, but it stalls it. Stalls as in the wheel is still rotating, but not generationg boost; the aerodynamic term stall. Ofcourse you can completly avoid that, and the point of having a bov if you just power shift... everywhere =P
