Tanabe DD's are dead

I've been trying to decide what coilovers I wanted to buy for months. Today I went to order my DD's and the shop told me they are discontinued and are being replaced by the new sustec seven's but those won't be out until next year :hammer: . I finally have the time to work on my car but all my plans are going up in smoke... I can either sit on my ass and wait until the seven's come out while missing plenty of track time or buy another set of coilovers. Zeal is probably too expensive, JIC's aren't that great when you drive them hard (I have had multiple friends with JIC's and after continuous track time they started to fall apart). Kei office is expensive for the good models and they also recomend that you weld the chassis to make it stiffer which I don't want to do. I've driven on megans and they suck compared to dd's so mr/d2/k-sport are out of the question. If you have any suggestions on what I should get (let me know if zeals are worth the extra money) let me know.

imo i was going to go either
ZEAL FunctionD, Super Function
Tanabe DD
Cusco 2r
or Apex'i N1 Pro

went w/ dd cheapest
i think if i did ti all over and DD wasnt availble, FunctionD or SuperFucntion (bucko bucks for the latter)

Function b6's really transformed my car... they are stiff but aren't unforgiving.

yep, and i just sold my Tanabe DD's over the weekend.
from what Tanabe told me was the SEVENS will be a direct replacement for the DD's, same spring rates and the option to go even stiffer! 12/10. Also with the ability to use remote electronic dampening, which is useless i think. the valving is supposed to be a step up from the DD's also, something about indenpently variable speed senstivity. The only thing holding me back is they arent using the casing design for the SEVENS as they did with the DD's!

Zeals are awesome in every way imaginable except for the worst bracket design ever. It's waaaaayyyy too short.

auto rnd is gonna sponsor my homeboy's evo and are gonna give him half off on some zeal's but from the experiances I've had with them on other parts, they aren't the lowest price in town. I guess I'll stop by auto rnd this week and see what the zeals go for and make a decision from there. If they're willing wheel and deal then I'll probably get the zeals. I really want the dd's, if they won't come down then I'll probably buy something used that'll get me by for a couple month's then buy the seven's.

Why do companies insist on coming out with new shit when their old shit is perfectly good?

A'pexi n1 pro--> Evolution series
Bride--> new bride
Tanabe DD---> Super/Function/7 thingie

HKS Hiper Ds are awsome... the Yashio Factory Coilovers are basically re-colored Hyper Ds. Got a basically brand new set off Yahoo Japan. Cost is about the same as Zeal Function D.

Peace

tanabe is coming out with the Seven series because they are trying to IMPROVE their lineup.

the seven is gonna have electronic dampening control that can be preset and adjusts on the fly depending on speed.

also, the valving of the suspension is totally different than what the DD was.

on other brands of coilovers (specifically the "cheap" 32 way adjustable coilovers), they promise 32 way adjustment but don't pack as much punch as the sevens will. the shock dyno chart above shows the seven (in red) versus another brand on the market (in green).

an analogy is that with the other brand its like getting 50 cents in pennies
while with the sevens you get a dollar in nickels.

the sevens will not be a "drift" or "grip" coilover, but will have a broad range from hard to soft, much greater than the other coilovers on the market. therefore, you won't be limited to your type of driving whether it be track one day and the next minute driving home with comfort.

the spring rates will be 10/8kg and 12/10kg. still kyb obviously, so they aren't downgrading their materials or production methods.

and the reason why many companies are coming out with new things (many of them with more "affordable" options) is because the current market does not support the high quality stuff. that's a whole 'nother discussion though.

the same reason why the majority of successful companies do it, its profitable.

Think of how someone here recently mentioned how Apple keeps discontinuing their old line of iPods so people are forced to buy the new ones.

The guys at auto rnd were telling me that for anything other than hot laps I should stay away from shocks that are needle valved because they'll get hot much quicker. DD's are needle valved but I still want them as/f.kgmsd;'flkhms'h. Does anyone know when the apex'i n1 drift's are gonna come out. I'm still exploring my options. This is the most important piece of equipment on my car and I can't make a decision. And it totally sucks because I need something now!
