Anyone recall the socket size needed to remove the caliper bolts to get to the pads (not the whole thing - just the flip up part)? 14? 12?

My tools are on "loan" and I need to do a pad swap b/f Wed. to go to NY.

i'm thinkin 14 or 17.......i can't remember what it was when i did it. just get 12-18mm and be done with it.

Okay - I was thinking 14 and that make me a little more sure. Maybe the 17 is for the whole caliper and the 14 is for the bracket?

Of course, I already OWN these sizes in box/open and two drive sizes... but they are in someone else's garage <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':huh:'>

The 14mm bolts hold the calipar onto the bracket.  The 17mm bolts hold the calipar assembly (including bracket) - for taking off brake rotors.

Signet makes the gear wrenches, and they're my favorite tool too.  Don't try cracking bolts with them because you'll damage the gear inside.  Just use a box wrench for that.

You still haven't gotten you tools back from B? I will swing by his house when I get home and pick them up for you. He lives on my way home from work.

Oh and as far as  ratchet wrenches go. Sears Craftsman are only $49.95. I have a set and they are awesome!

Thanks - my guess of 14mm was confirmed Monday - it was the Civic that was 12mm.  And Matt - that would be great.  I went on that 100 hr. 7 day a week work schedule and didn't get the chance to get over there for 3-4 months.  Thanks to a phone replacement I don't have his cell and he hasn't returned any email in a while.  <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

BTW: picked up a set of closed end metric gear wrenches - $26.99.  They are pretty <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

yeah, yeah - but how many people are car freaks and live on the 10th floor of a mid-rise building?  No garage.  No covered area.  No storage area.  As it is, I have a closet called the "garage" that is filled w/ tires, brakes, tools, fluids, etc.

I realized that having two sets of wrenches is the way to go.  I have one good set and a no-name brand w/ open and box end then two sets of ratchets.  All together cost me like $150 so far so good.  And w/ that I can pretty much do everything on my car.  Watch out for the 9mm brake line fittings had to buy a wrench just to do that <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'>
