I hear a rattling sound coming from the resignator, some people call it the second muffler, that fat round thing that looks like a big catalytic converter.  Do i really need this? i have a custom 2 1/2 inch exhaust to an apexi muffler, can i just replace the resignator with pipe instead of replacing it?  or will it make the exhaust too loud?  thanks for any replies.

If your talking about the resonator on the cat back part of the exhaust, thats reall not doing anything too useful i dont think.
The one at the base of the downpipe before the cat back part of the exhaust is the secondary catalytic converter. It is pretty much hollow inside, but i really dont know if you would have problems w/ emmissions testing if you removed it.
There are definately people here who bypass that. Dont know if its really street legal though.

alright here's the deal. if you follow the flow of exhaust from the combustion chamber here's what you'll run into.

1) exhaust manifold
2) pipe
3) cat
4) pipe
5) resonator
6) pipe
7) muffler
8) tips

if you ask me, there are only three integral parts to the system. the manifold (or headers if it applies), the cat, and piping. take out the resonator, take out the muffler, whatever.....but keep the cat, performance gains from replacing it are very minimal, and unless you're racing for money, there's no reason to take it out. so do us all a favor and leave it alone. the resonator on the other hand is useless.

I don't want to remove the cat, its still there i have the custom 2 1/2 in. pipe after the cat, i was just talking about the resonator. You say it is useless, which i agree, but will it make my exhaust too loud if i remove it?? thanks

An aftermarket exhaust on an NA 2.4 is loud and these come with resonators.

An aftermarket exhaust on an NA 2.4 w/o a resonator is TOO LOUD!

A resonator doesn't rob performance, but it does keep it quiet.  imho, that's a good thing.

it's probably not your resonator, but the heatshield above it.

Just yank it off and put a piece of pipe up there.

My 95 KA has no resonator. Just a Viper Cat and 2.5 piping from the header.
