First off...the on-topic post:
I really think if you're beating a 99/00 SI with only a cone filter....that guy's SI is slow. My good friend has a 99 SI...and we were dead even all the way through 3rd and 4th gear, back when all I had was intake, Exhaust, and he had intake.
Those things are quicker then us...until we get turbo or SR.



as far as sanctioned racing coming from street racing? NO, in fact, there's an old black&white silent film, about the start of the automobile, in it, they race a horse with the original auto on a horse track....and then they start showing the dirt oval tracks...(I'm thinking that's how NASCAR got started on oval tracks...from originally racing on dirt horse tracks)

you can however say that street racing "sometimes" helps people get into sanctioned racing, but that's as far as it goes.

As far as streetracing...honestly, I used to be all for it...but unfortunately, people start to think it's ok to do it on a main street, with their 17 second 80's accord, and lose control (how do you lose control in a 17 second accord in a straight line?), hitting a telephone pole, killing the baby brother&sister of the girlfriend in the passenger seat. True Story

I'm leaning more and more towards actual tracks. Plus, I'm a corner guy...straight line is like a hand job....sure, might get the job done...but no where near as satisfying.

And although I do take the corners fast on the local mountains...I still only do it at night, like after midnight...so it'll decrease my chance of hitting someone. (I'd still prefer doing it on the actual track...but I'm having to wait till next year.)

as far as locking posts for streetracing? no. It's a free country, freedom of speech, swapping in a SR20 is illegal, should all posts regarding Sr20's in street driven 240's be locked?

Instead of locking threads and flaming streetracer's, let's try to educate them on the REAL danger of streetracing, and also educate them on the benefits of a REAL track, with special surfacing, and lights, with timing systems. That should be reason enough for anyone interested in dragracing to get to their local strip. Street racing is for newbies, who don't know better. We should educate, not flame.

and for those who do streetrace, reading this post...trust me, racing on the strip IS better. You'll get better traction, and you'll be able to really see how fast you are...not just a guess. And you'll gain more respect with the timeslip, then a story about a friends slow 99/00 SI. (unless you have turbo or SR20, mod for mod...they should always be faster, drags of course)

Ok i could write about a page of flames on that statement, but i won't, and i'll just try to have a conversation here.

Well, i think we had discussion a while ago about this, and everyone agreed that we are talking engineering vs skills part. Plus the fun of having a really fast car that puts you in the back of your sit, and the priceless look on a face of a z28 driver that just saw your rear licsence plate. Therefore i respect people who make their cars fast, and i respect people who race at the track. But people who pay others to make a swap/turbo their car are no different to me as people who drive stock cars.

Anyways, right now i'm all about engines. At some point (about a month ago) i realized that it brings pleasure to me to just stand in front of the car and stare at the engine bay. And it doesn't matter what car it is, as long as you can see every part.

The track, might be fun. But i never tried it. So i can't tell. But for some reason i feel like you haven't had a ride in a car that's faster than 14sec either. And i'm not about to drop a bulk of money for something unknown even if people say it's so fuckin good.

So yeah, it's all about the interests, but please don't flame drag racing, and show your track shit as the one and only thing you can do with your car. Cuz it aint.

drag racing is a challenge for the engine builder, track driving is a challenge for the driver AND crew.

i assume you mean on a dragstrip or street.
what about the look (although you can't see it cause you're wearing a helmet) of a 993 driver after you pass him on the track, or numerous C5's, mustangs, and camaro's?

ok the first statement meant exactly what u said.
the second one i gotta agree on. But newbs at the track know they are noobs, cuz everyone starts out the same, yet who gets better passes others even if their cars are better. So like if there is a guy in a corvette that is there for the first time, and he gets passed, he realizes that's it's ok, cuz some peeps are better. Yet when we are talking engines, a camaro guy is pretty confident in his car, and he doesn't expect a challenge from some stock looking import that got a 2.4 to his 5.7

So we've got drag racing to a competition of building motors, fun of being pushed back in your seat, and breaking others pride while boosting your own?

It may be hypocritical for me to say this since I've never been to a drag strip (though I have accelerated in a straight line from a dead stop full force a number of times) but I'd venture to say that none of the "street racers" on this forum have ever been to a track day...and very few ever to an auto-x.

There's nothing like watching a 4 banger running 10.xx in the 1/4mi, it's impressive. But for those (like myself) who aren't really mechanics, There is a lot more fun in DRIVING the car hard and pushing, brakes, suspension and engine to (or near, hehe) it's limit than just driving in a straight line.
