What exactly is the tinging noise you hear from the engine right after you stop the car?  Is it metal expanding / contracting?

AND

On S14's, what is the small cylinder attached to the exhaust at the last big bend before the muffler?  What does it do?  If you don't know what I am talking about, lean down and look at the exhaust from the rear of the car.  You will see it.

it happens on virtually all cars.
iirc it is the exhaust system cooling, and shrinking
not 100% sure tho

[edit] i asked the owner of a local shop what the little cylinder was... he said it was a little vibration damper[/edit]
