Dude, super stoked !!!!! even if this next HTM isn't the "battle" event, we should still get some TOUKE guys out there with us!!
And when the neighborly "battle" happens, we need stickers that say DRIFT626 VS TOUKE TEAM BATTLE I think they should go across the front windshield, bottom. And for those competing, they should be a little different than the others that are just running at the events!!!!!! It could be a annual event, like zip tie!! |

Oh, for sure. But Zip Tie doesn't need to be the only annual event. us smaller clubs can have our fun too
is there even parking room at zip tie?? I'm super hyped to see that event!!! |

you can call it:
"So Cal Showdown" or "Backyard Brawl" should be a pretty fun event! i was actually planning to go the feb 2nd event, but i have a scheduling conflict. sounds like great things are happening with the 626 crew! can't wait till i go to the next event with them, and drive in beginner group!

Really quick:
Ive never been to a DriftDay or any other drift event(because my car is not yet properly setup for it), but generally if at one of these events lets say, someone blows their diff, how do they get back? Ive wanted to take my car to a drift event forever but low and behold, my diff just blew, and no $ for LSD so I'll be open diffing it for a while.... Anyways is it an absolute necessity that we run with LSD? Id like to open diff it and see how it goes before I get a new tranny and decide what LSD Im throwing into it. My car was built for anything BUT drifting, but Im going to give it a shot anyways since some of my friends have had a lotta fun with their SW's...Im also in 626 area, by the way. Well thats why its so hard to hold a slide in my car. Cant get extreme angle, nor can you do much weight transfer b/c of oversteer. And it also seems like you guys have never driven a MIDENGINED car with a welded diff lol. Its freakn horrrribbbble. So yeah welded diff isnt an option. Just saving up for a Quaife later on but I wanted to try it with an open to see what its like and how hard it actually is. Plus Im boosted and if I go to the event I'll just run 215s or 225s in back? Right now Im running 255 Bridgestone RE01s in back so obviously that wont work for drift haha.
Are there any other MR2 drifters you guys have seen around? Im pretty sure lately therse only been one more guy going to the events (he's n/a, his car is dark turquoise)... -Aaron

none that i have seen.....Your bigest problem is going to be the snap oversteer. youll be able to initiate into the first sweeper, but your gonna find it almost impossible to transition towards the ring because of the weight of the rear end comming around so fast. If your ebrake works then you could initiate, then almost straighten out completely and use your ebrake to transition, then stay on the gas. But it should be lots of fun!! come out!

i would think a welded would be better still. even with mid engine. You will probably just have to beat the steering wheel when transitioning.
with an open diff, the unpredictable stick/slide of it will make things so much harder to prepare for. like transitioning, sometimes itmight straighten out, sometimes it might stay loose. with a welded, its always loose what you think Mark?? make sense? |

Actually he did carl....SW's=MR2
Yea castro it makes sense, but in an mr2, you have to drop the trans to access the diff. So thats why most just wait till they can afford what they really want in a diff.....But like you said, ultimately it will still be better than an open diff for drifting. |

Confused...so is there going to be a 2 day event that includes HTM? You guys going to be drifting only on HTM? Any room for grip drivers?
To the SW20 owner -- as a former sw20 owner, I can tell you drifting that car with an open diff is damn near impossible. Even once you get an LSD, it will still be difficult and you simply cannot get big drift angles. BUT!!! That's not to say you won't have fun trying at the track =P |
