great build! One of the few threads I've subscribed to... can't wait to see it finished! Great job, and great attention to detail. I love the matte black valve covers! My SR's valvecover is the same.

Just one suggestion, for all the money you've used on this build... please tell me that Fram oil filter is just temporary. You've soaked a ton of money not to owe the car a better oil filter! OEM Nissan FTW! Please?!?

Well busy weekend, got the front end mocked up and hood pins installed and pretty much got eberything mechanical wise put together.

Which culminated in this

YouTube - VH45de S14 first drive again 2008

The whine you hear is the p/s pump as i had no fluid in the system,

We ended up removing everything that wasnt bolted down and took it for a spin, unfortunatly the vid is pretty uneventful. When i was further from my neighborhood i opened her up, it will destroy 315 azenis from a roll in second gear and if you go first thru third its amazing, i couldnt take it out too long as it was getting dark, but all in all great ride

Heres some more pics

Serious buisness

Well made it to the dyno today, did a couple of pulls with a few different tunes courtesy of mazworx.

1st pull base line, headers / exhaust

2nd pull left the vtc till redline no other changes, picked up a few hp up top tq remained the same

3rd pull vtc was stock a few degrees of timing and a little leaner
Big diference in tq below 4000. Best pull of the the night.

So the most power was 283hp 293wtq. I think with a little more fine tuning 300whp 300lbft tq is very achievable, we shall see. Ill have the .drf's tommorow and can over lay the 3 on winpep.

Heres some vids

Got the files and better graphs today, just for fun heres the new motor baseline vs my original setup basiclly 100kmile motor (red) vs 227kmile motor (blue). Much better to start with.

Heres the baseline pull (blue) vs the vtc turned off ( red) made about an 8hp increase up top. This new motor is running a little rich for some reason, dont know if the wideband from the dyno was good though, got to check a few things on the engine.

This is a tune with timing and fuel made the best increases down low almost 40lbft of tq below 4000rpm.

Are those the ebay plastic headlights? Look pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the hood, but you can't win 'em all.

Motor sounds killer. Think this is mostly the result of the X pipe and twin exhausts? From a quick perusal it seems most of the chevy swappers just do a y pipe to a single 3", but I don't think you can even think about comparing the sound of a 5.7L pushrod engine to a 4.5L DOHC.

I like the idea of painting the IM like a spider. That needs to happen, if only in jest.

DOHC as in dual over HEAD cam.

2 cams per head = still DOHC.

Good thing that car has a DOHC motor. The guy you quoted was right. A "quad-cam" car with two heads is still a DOHC setup. Just as how a "twin-cam" car can still be SOHC (i.e. SOHC 4.6 liter modular motor). Quit bringing up stupid stuff in this thread.

And I totally agree with southerncross. I can't wait to see this beast in action!

If you're going to compare it to a domestic engine let it be the 4.6L Ford DOHC cobra engine because they sound just about the same.
