From outside experience, I would suggest to not trust the adaptor (i.e. Phantom) kind if your car is going to be under heavy, stressful driving or high WHP goal. I have seen them either shred the gears or crack under load or both. But everyone's experience and preference is different and respected, of course.

I installed a Quaife in my last car and I loved it though it was a FWD application which is best suited for. With the 240, from my research, I'm eyeing the KAAZ or Cusco and probably 2 way for my ultimate goal in the future.

Best of luck on your decision.

The problem i have with the KAAZ, Cusco and carbonetics diffs is they need to be rebuilt, most likely often with the way most of us drive their cars. The quaife is a lifetime warranty and will never need rebuilt. Its also better suited to road racing, for drifting i would probably want something that locked a bit quicker

I've got a welded right now, I had a Nismo 2-way in my old car and I just ordered a OS Giken 1.5-way I can't wait to see how it feels.

I use a cusco RS.... I can switch from a 2 way to 1 way.
Its awesome and is not bad at all around corners. $750 shipped used.

If your diff whines your bearings are likely bad or it is not adjusted properly.

I have a Nismo 1.5 but it doesn't clunk that much, even low speed. The previous owner said he modified it somehow.

My S14 came with a VLSD... threw it in my S13 so I can swap my 2way to my s14 and figured I'd have fun with it.

Now my S14 has a KAAZ 2way and the VLSD on the S13 sucks so much balls that i want to throw it down a cliff so I can get an open diff and weld that sucker.

That sounds like a welded diff

Also I read you have a track coilover set up with stiff springs, same thing im running

Track set up + Welded diff + Low speed turns (like threw stop lights infront of cops) = SUCKS!!!!!

My welded diff would bounce like hell threw low speed turns(cuz springs are soo stiff). Not only did it eat the CV axle's, but it wore the crap out of the sub frame bushings, Don't even wana think of the stress it was putting on everything else. But it ate tires like crazy. So unless you are building a track only car I would not run a welded diff!!

My Low Mile JDM 5 Bolt Vlsd Works Awesome!!!!!! And for about 250 -375 in the for sale section you can find one. I also heard you can shim these up and pretty much lock them witch I don't know why you would wana do that cuz it works perfect I can pretty much lock it up on comand and when it locks it locks smooth and easy to control. The Key is get a low mile one cuz most people that say these suck, It's because they had a beat drifted on 160k mile diff. Sure after that long the clutch packs are going to wear out. Mine only has about 15k of auto non drift use and felt supper sweet when you spun it by hand.

Just my 2 cent's

+1 for s15 hlsd. No noise from the diff. No low speed chirping. Just reliable grip to both wheels without anything to wear out. Plus the output shafts are larger diameter so if your worried about those breaking they are stronger!

I am running a oem vlsd, will be shim one of the extra vlsd I have ($5). Cheaper than welding, although I have a welded diff in my garage, but I cant stand it in the streets.

the only con to a hlsd is, if one wheel is up in the air, it becomes an open diff. so if your slammed like i am, you will still three wheel over bumps.

and plus, a welded is not THAT bad for DDing.
