wastegate placement

I have a question about external wastegate placement. I am setting up my turbo kit and this will be my first external wastegate. I have heard stories about the wastegate pipe being too long from the manifold and causing boost creep issues. is there a recommended length the pipe should be?? i will be running the v44 tial wastegate on this manifold. flange will be cutoff and v-band welded on

p.s. any other manifold out there for t3 flange- 1jz

If I recall correctly, the wastegate should be as close to the turbo as possible. The blow off valve should be relatively close to the throttle body.

lots of manifolds that are TOP NOTCH have the wastegate moved away from the turbo. look at fullrace with the twin scroll single gate. the gate is moved away BUT the place it mounts is right at the turbo on the collector(s)

I ve been wondering about this myself... Commonly you see the WG on the collector or a short pipe running off it.

However I have seen a few skylines and RX-7s with crazy rear mounted WGs.... rear mount, as in, in the trunk like Ken Nomura (URAS BLITZ R34)

Its not placement its flow that matters.

it doesn't matter how far away, it matters how easily exhaust will flow through it.

that manifold will creep like hell.

i agree with mcrusselpants. the manifold might flow pretty well to the turbo, but the exhaust has to go 180* in the opposite direction to get to the wastegate. that's not good for flow.

see if any supra guys have used it before.

You have to worry about those cheap manifolds collectors, make sure you debur it. They are known for cracking so you willprobably want to weld on some bracing from head flange to turbo flange.

If you are going to get a vband welded on and you have enough room to shorten it than why not.

Knockoff mani's are junk, this is one place you really shouldnt cheap out on, its just going to cost more in the long run and it wont perform anywhere near as good as the real thing. Ive fixed way to many of the crappy knockoffs.

If you go this way
1. Brace it
2. Dont heat wrap
3. shorten wg tube if possible
4. Pray

Good Luck
