HKS Super Sequential BOV. A lot of people think its the best as far as performance and reaction time. If you want cool sound... get somethin else. The SSQV sounds like a turkey when the small valve opens, then a WHOOSH when the big one goes.

i was going to get the blitz super sound bov but everyone says it sucks.. i dont remember why exactly, but in a lot of threads, ppl say their blitz bov leaks and its due to the spring inside the bov. you might need to search some more to find the specific details. this is just off the top of my head from what i faintly remember. i like how the looks were designed on the blitz and would buy it until i heard horror stories from ppl. now im lost.
also, the greddy bov is good as far as functionality but ppl say its not loud or aggressive enough. HKS SSQV Bov is a nice piece. its loud and it functional. i hear only good things about them and the design looks nice to a lot of ppl. im not into it though so i dont intend on getting the hks but i ppl recommend it. there are many bovs out on the market. in fact, i think scc just did a bov review in the june issue. check it out if its still on the newstands. |

The June 2003 volume of Sport Compact Car had a really good article on bovs. Unfortunately it's not online... It should still be on the shelves though, and I would definatly reccomend checking it out. Also, if you haven't gotten a copy already, i'd suggest buying a copy of maximum boost by corky bell. Very good info.

I have the HKS SQV (not the highspeed SSQV) and I really like it. I had the Blitz SS and it leaked like a mofo. I was always stalling and the car would misfire all the time. If I came off throttle too sharply it would stall if I got on the clutch and didn't shift fast enough it would stall. It sucked big time!
The HKS is much quieter and I haven't stalled since I have put it in. Now I have to change my plugs since I was running so rich from the MAF getting false readings from the BOV leaking the air out. Word to the wise DON'T BUY IT It is for cars w/ MAPS not MAFS

nrcooled or anybody, i got a quick newbie question about MAFs and MAPs. i forgot what MAPs stands for and how they work.
i know mafs are mass air flow sensors and they work when air passes through it and it gets metered so your fuel management system can differentiate how much fuel will flow to the chamber for a nice a/f ratio. whats a map though? mass air p____? i just cant remember what it stands for and how it works, although i think i knew at one time.. ![]() |

My Blitz DD sux ***. It leaks(even when FULLY tightened), gets stuck open sometimes, the threads strip easily...it's just a POS. I'll take an SSQV anyday over any BOV.

I've got an extra HKS SQV if anyone is interested. Not really trying hard to sell it so that's why this isn't in FS section

I'm amazed at the difference in reviews by the people here and the review given by SCC. Their test showed pretty bad performance for the SSQ bov. I wonder if they recieved a faulty unit??

As for the bovs, not really sure which one as i'm confused to hell after seeing foxcolt and nrcooled at the last meet.... before then i got a good response from uiuc240 about the bov super sound, and was pretty fixed in mind about hks SQV being a crappy one since it was plastic (plastic -> melting -> leakage). Then i see Bakari who tells me the super sound is a pos, and Jed who's saying his sqv works just fine.... dunnow whom to trust anymore ![]() |

I would stick with a HKS SSQV, Greddy Type-S, and maybe Apexi. They are both Push/Pull design, more effeciency and less leaks. I had the SSQV before and liked it, but im not a fan of it since you cant route it back into your intake very ez. This time around I will be getting the Greddy Type S. On top of that the sounds was kinda anoying but scared the hell out of people, the Type S sounds sooooooo nice with high boost.

Just out of curiosity, those of you who are recommending the HKS SSQV, how are you calculating the efficiency of that valve?

HKS ALL THE WAY....To my understanding they are one of the best, if not the best. They dont sound as nice as the greddy (aka turkey) but they respond very nicely and look good too. If you want a nice sounding BOV go for the old school HKS bov is sounds like a turkey too

Blitz Super Sound
I have the Blitz Super Sound on my SR. Runs fine.
No leaks, no stalling, no nada. It never EVER dies EVER (not even at stoplights). And no, its not recirculated. Full atmopshere. And I bought it used to boot. Don't believe everything you hear. Personally I like the "Sheepdog" BOV (although the sound is somewhat "wussy"; my friend has it on her SR), and of course the Blitz Super Sound. The APEX'i Twin Chamber BOV is cool and has a decent sound, check it out. APEX'i and Blitz BOV can be had used for less than a bill. Sheepdog BOVs are "rare" and thus expensive (unless you know someone in Japan ![]() Good luck |

You really do want to get a valve that will allow you to rerout the air back into the system though. An atmospheric BOV on a MAFS equipped car is just ridiculous.

Also, there is a way around the stumble/stall associated with the atmospheric BOVs. The Apexi S-AFC has a function on it that allows the user to compensate for it, by reducing the fuel supplied during a deceleration. It overrides the MAF signal, and reduces the ammount of metered air the ECU sees, leaning out the mixture, and lessening the stumble. -Jeff

I agree with Kazuo, either Apexi, or Blitz.
I have the Blitz DD on my car and it works great no leaks and not rec'd. I plan on getting an safc, has anyone played with the newer safc's yet? |
