16gauge, sch 10, and sch 40, are the most common thicknesses I see for manifolds and headers (16ga being used for headers). I don't really see many other sizes that get used as frequently.
A sch40 mild steel manifold is just as thick as a sch40 SS manifold. Stainless is stronger. But loses it's strength once it starts going through regular heat cycles. This is why you usually see SS manifold in sch10 and sch40... Thicker walls help prolong the deteriorating process as it can technically take more heat. ...... And when some manifolds get glowing red hot..... You lose a lot of the stainless steels' properties... The simple fact is. That unless you're going to dish out the cash for 321 stainless.. Or incolnel for that matter. A coated steel manifold/header will most likely out last it's 304 SS counterpart. Like I said. The only real advantage to a SS manifold will be it's bling factor and it's corrosion resistance factor.. Which kind goes out the window with the more heat cycles it goes through. |

I've thought about the whole heat wrapped ss thing, but I was more worried about my brake lines than my manifold so I decided to just wrap it up.
I'm thinking about getting a slimmer booster or something to get the brake master a bit further away. |

Freebie is always great, the one I made works just fine though and I am happy with it and will probably be using it more.
I would like to make some tubs for my car soon. |

Are those 1/8" NPT threads in the side? That thing looks huge, but it might just be the angles/cam phone.

I got a protools 105 from TMR Customs, Custom Fabrication Components for Offroad Vehicles using the pirate4x4 coupon code for 10% off. Definitely a good route to go. Great customer service.

If you are serious.
It first started out as this big T washer. I don't know where it came from but I had two laying in the garage. ![]() Then I shaved the shaft into a cone shape at first but it turned out that the shaft was the size of the hole I cut out(3/4") so I used some spare tubing I had bought from lowes and heat one end up then hammered the piece into it to flare which you can see in the pic. I tac them together and it was done and turned out great. ![]() ![]() I used a big socket for the other end and it flattens the metal as well |

Well. I got some work done today. finished now. I am going to pressure test it to see if I will need to add a gasket.
My next project I will be starting tomorrow is the coil pack cover..Going to be a lot finding dimensions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That's 1/4 inch thick polycarbonate.

one quick question...why dont more cages clear the stock door panels? i understand it puts the bars a little closer to the driver, but would that extra 2 inches be that unsafe?

Not so much about safety, it's about seat clearance and ease of ingress/egress. Bringing them in far enough to clear the stock panels makes it reaaaaaaaally tight getting your legs in under the dash.
