Of course I put quite a bit of mileage on it and it got totaled at 36k by a hit and run driver when it was parked in August 2002. At that point I had also been bitten by the SR bug and wanted to swap out to a SR. Needless to say that course of events put me on a spree of buying 240's over the years. My current car is my last build though and all I can say is now that its moving towards completion, I love the car again. I will say its people Like Diego, Ken Flores, Marco Vargas, Omar, Harp, Mike Mamos,Glen Sato,Sam Chang, Ray, Amanda,Kevin,Mikey Jurado, and even a few newer people that made it worthwhile.

I was looking at my S14's title the other night, it showed June 2002. I still remember picking up the poor thing from its previous owner. Found gummy bears and all sort of crap in it. Took my wife (then g/f) a whole day to clean it up. Unfortunately I never took any picture of it stock, but it looks exactly like this without a sun roof.
(picture from the pic request thread, not my car) To this day my wife still don't want me to sell the car. |

Shit more like Pre-2003, 2003 is the widely accepted year when the Dorifto craze went mainstream in the states. Thank you D1GP for fucking it all up for most of us.

I was in the Toyota Cressida (Mark II) scene while all the OG's were in the 240's. Then I switched over after realizing how expensive my 1jz swap was going to be and went with a 240 and started an SR swap that was almost just as much (4 months later). |

Nice thread. I remember hanging out with the unstable Hybrids crew of Jason, Jake, Dennis, & Scott. Met Russ, Murph, Brandon, and many many others in a Dave and Busters around 01 02 time frame. I remember going through lots and lots of Yokohama ES 100 tires. Aus Pous Seyas!

I do not know but apparently he missed the memo about this being the old school thread as in people who have been around since 2001 or before.

The good old days of not having any coilovers available in the US market. Where you'd have to sell your first born to get them imported from Japan and having to wait forever to get them.

The good old days definitely sucked from a parts standpoint. Now you can get stuff for way cheaper from all the kids who jumped on the bandwagon then ran out of money... at least in Florida. I'm building my current car for half the price of my 2002 car build, and I have much better parts this time around. Also helps that I'm not a broke college student anymore :P
It was nice to drive around and not have people follow you or flag you down to talk about 240sx's though... just because we drive the same car doesn't make us instant best friends.

This is the reason I wish I was able to get into 240's sooner. I think I was just barely old enough to see Russ losing his interest in this "community". The SR20 was gaining popularity and the guys at Balanced weren't using Chris May's pictures in the front room anymore. I got one opportunity to ride in Russ's Blue car when MOG Nissan was first built and thought that the power he had was unreal; I think you said it made 170. Its taken me 6 years to get where I am today and I have developed a very real respect for you guys. I wouldn't dare post a picture of my car in here, but to any one who's arguing with the original guys, you just don't understand how different it really was...
Russ, I appreciate everything you've ever helped me on. A side note, someone mentioned not building these cars without a garage. Its a fact, I don't feel safe leaving my 240 anywhere; I've read to many stolen s-chassis horror stories....

Shit, sad thing...I bought my 97 back in late 2000, right after basic training for $13.5k. Sold it in late 2006, after throwing in over $20k into it from the last 2 yrs of it, for the same fucking price I paid for it, $13.5k.

talk about memory lane. i bought my car when i turned 17. Everyone made fun of me saying i bought a womens car, esspecially since my friends mom drove one. People used to bash me for liking drifting (calling it wannabe racing) and than BAM D1 hit and everyone loved my car. Used to go to the old army base and clutch kick the shit out of that car.
can't find my original picture. but this was from 2004, just after d1 hit north america |
