You can probably get away with making a tank to match the brace triangle and lower, make it expand out. That would work for you and you would not have to redo the brace under there. Only thing is you would have to get the measurements for people if you have someone who is in a different state do it for you. Good luck.

Any advice on where one could get started on learning to fab?

I was thinking of picking up a welding class at my community college but not sure if it'll help or if it's different. Any schools anyone went to?

I grew up mostly in a shop but for starters, a good way to learn is by self teaching. Makes it easier to remember.
Can borrow a welder or if you want to get into it seriously, buy a welder and start with simple stuff like metal plates to make angle or stitch weld the strut towers of cars, etc. Start off cheap with a mig welder. I got a harbor frieght one for $25 once. Dont need anything super expensive at first unless you want too.

Make sure whatever you weld is clean. Bare metal clean. I normally use acetone or alcohol after grinded it to bare metal.

Also if you have a friend with a welder, see if he will let you weld a little.

16oz budlight bottle because our build is powered by budlight + -4an straight bulkhead an fiting +90der -4 an = a catch can ..





I will be sealing the cap with super black silicone but you get the point

Here's a fiberglass piece I've been working on the past few days.

It's for a '60 VW bug driver rear window. The purpose is to replace this window and get more air to the engine bay to help with cooling.

The grey is body filler. Once I trimmed all the foam Down i used the filler to smooth it all out.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't have the rear bars attached to the rear bar for certain type of drift competition

Yeah the rear down tubes aren't legal for Formula D. They are plenty safe and okay for most other things though.

im looking for opinions on this welder....im looking for one to get started welding with, to do some light work and sheet metal. ive found a guy selling a hobart 115v with argon bottle and cart for a decent price, but i want to make sure i can adjust the heat to create better welds, heres the pics of it...let me know if its worth it

Hobart is a good brand. Basically the entry level of Miller.

For me this welder doesn't have enough settings but will probably do the job just fine. Not a fan of hobart but there a good welder just make sure its 220v capable so you can really get good penetration.

What do you guys think about the Lincoln Electric K2185- 1? I'm not looking to do anything crazy mainly exhaust & bracing. The price doesn't seem bad plus I don't have access to 220 only 110 in these beat ass apartments lol.

two quick questions

No welding skills what so ever, point me in the right direction?

What would be a good piece of equipment to grow on? No real price range!

Third, I lied. picture below has a bolt in cage for a 350Z, yet the cage setups are generally all the same. The bar to the sides of the passenger/driver seats, does it have to be straight? Adding two more point that go to the footwells, would that help? The reason behind the question is that I'm tall and the bar being straight would ruin any ride over 10-15 minutes for me.

I guess I'll throw some junk up here I did.

Axle hubs for a S14, I think this was so we could use 300ZX hubs in a Q45 differential or something like that? It was a weird mix up of Nissan OEM pieces. Couldn't be done on a turn table because I had to clamp it down level while welding.

Mild steel axles and hubs with SR70S-2 filler rod.







S-Chassis SR20DET turbo manifold with Tial v-band collector and four EGT bungs.

Cast 304 stainless steel, flanges of unknown stainless alloy, 304L filler rod.







Welding procedure test during a manifold in progress. Checking for penetration.



S14/S15 'black top' SR20DET intake manifolds to fit RHD/LHD S13-S15 S-Chassis.

I don't know all the aluminum alloys for this, but I used 4043 filler rod.

No the bar doeas not need to be straight. You can have up to 3 bends in that bar.

When i did the bars on this s13 hatch i uses 2 bends and got them as close to the A pillars as i could beacuse the driver is 6'2'' and needed the room.
