Moar polishing
Got TWO MORE WHEELS done today! It's hot as balls out.. I was literally dripping sweat down at the rate of 1 drop per 2 seconds for a while... It was nuts!
Yesterday, I sanded with 1500grit only. The first wheel I did today, I started with 1500 and went to 2000grit. It's noticeably shinier than yesterday's. The second wheel, I started with 1000, then 1500, then 2000grit... It needs more polishing, but so far, it's WAY smoother than the other ones. The 1000grit took a lot more of the fine scratches and imperfections out of the dish on the wheels, and it'll probably look 10x better... Which sucks... Cuz now I need to do the other 3 the same way! Doin' it low rider status... for almost 6 hours while I polished! ![]() Polishing makes me happy! Thumbs up with a sad face? ![]() Needs moar shiney! ![]() Greatest shit ever... Use it on everything! Smear it on ur sammichez! ![]() Wheel two.... START! ![]() ![]() I went over that wheel about 2-3 more times to get it polished right... I masked things off and painted my ass off. I need to wash them before they really shine, but they're an improvement! ![]() ![]() |

Heat soak? The amount is so minimal you wouldn't even notice if any...But I forgot your making a high performance race vehiclular device. I guess you posting on zilvia.net have never seen under the hood of a ka 240 that every intake goes infront the motor.

Bitch, please!
Quote:
Look at the engine bay of a 240sx. The distance between the front of the motor and the radiator is like 10". PLUS, you have a fan shroud, which helps direct heat AWAY from the intake piping. Looking under the hood of a KA'd 510, we have maybe 3" between motor and radiator. Know what that means? It means there's more heat generated between the two of them. PLUS, the 240sx radiator does a much better job of cooling than the typical VW Rabit radiator that most 510's use with this swap. That means the radiator is a bit hotter, too! Know the REASON they loop the intake way over there? Because the BATTERY and the COOLANT OVERFLOW TANK is in the way in their stock locations. If you overflow the coolant, you'd have fluid in the intake on a stock 240sx with my intake. If given the CHOICE to either have a short intake with better response to the throttle body, cooler air and no heat soak, as well as make the engine bay look cleaner... OR do it the "stock" 240sx way, which one seems better? Go log back into Nico, they're nicer over there. I'm tired of telling you how wrong you are. |

Meh.. We'll see! I just got my Project Mu lug nuts in today... I really need to yank the rear axles out and install the Nismo studs so I can run them in style! I'm going to hold off on installing them, I think, until I do that... It'll be my motivation!
Anybody interested, there's a Datsun swap meet/show tomorrow starting around 8-whenever. 8182 Elder Creek Blvd Sacramento, CA Y'all should swing by! I'll be out there vendoring my ish, and I'm bringing some Corona's on ice! Should be a fun enough time! I'm wondering how my butchered wheel wells and silly shifter will be taken at this meet! |

Small bump
So I got my SAFC Neo installed. I left the MAF and TPS un-wired because I don't want to tune yet, but they're ready when I am. Works well as a tach, since I don't have one, plus it looks baller.
Also, tomorrow, I should have the Thomas Knight kit shipped out... finally! Once it gets here, I've been debating going about my build a few ways, which I've been talking about on Ratsun. I'm sticking to stock compression - 9.5:1, which should be more than tuneable with 10psi (which is the most I can get from this setup without custom pulleys). I could go for lower compression, in case I ever decide to up the boost, but with an estimated 250whp, I don't think I'd want to go through the trouble to give myself minimal gains with more heat. I keep going back and forth on whether I should buy forged/new internals or keep what's in there. It'd be nice to have fresh internals, but there's ZERO damage to the walls, and the motor ran great before it was removed and set aside (I drove it before it was yanked). Even looking at the color of the oil in the head, everything is nice and golden, no gunk, and Nelson took great care of it while it was his. Also, I'm definitely going back and forth on yanking the crank and having it lightened/knife edged and balanced... What are the gains of doing this? Should I have the whole rotating assembly balanced or just the crank shaft? Obviously less rotating mass = more power put down, quicker revs and smoother downshifts... at the cost of a little torque. Also, I've been going back and forth on ideas for the engine bay. Originally, I was going to paint the bay gloss white and layer it down with a ton of clear over the top. But I know I'll turn into a detailing maniac , trying to keep it clean. Now, I'm thinking about using the Duplicolor "Effex" paint. Gloss black with rainbow flake, and cover that with a few good coats of the clear with rainbow flake to give it a really deep, wet look and protection... and then probably put regular clear over that! What are your opinions?! Took a cruise the other day, and stopped to take some pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And tonight, while I was working out, my alarm went off... Ran outside to see a broken cargo window... Bastards hit it with a bat at like 9:30pm out front of my house... Why so early?! And why my car?! Luckily, my buddy James is hooking me up with a new window and possibly a new seal if his is in better shape than mine. I'll get a new one in there this weekend, it sounds like. Motherfuckers. I was fucking ready to meet them outside, too! Shoulders and arms had my all warmed up.. I was more bummed cuz it was my favorite workout and I had to quit early tonight while I plexi-glassed the window. ![]() Anyway, that's it for now. Let me know what your opinions are on stuff!! |

This morning, I vacuumed my car out as best as possible, but I already know I'll be finding glass over the next few months hiding in odd places. It ended up being a rock after all, I just couldn't see it last night.
James is hooking me up, and I'm getting my window and seal tonight in about an hour. It is what is is, nothing I can do anymore. It sucks worse that they didnt even steal anything, it just means it was a random act against my car. I'm glad it hit the side instead of (I'd assume was their target) the back window. Much easier to replace. |

Cruise!
Well I fixed the window the other day. Sucks that it had to be done, but... such is life, can't dwell on it!
Kait and I decided to take a cruise the other day. Got to drive through a tunnel a few times, she took a ton of pictures, and even a video of said tunnel! Enough commenting, here they are! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then we got to the spot ![]() In case you wanted to see my butt... Kait hooked you up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then I stole the camera and went crazy ninja picture taking... I literally rolled over her hood, planted, turned and snapped pictures. I'm crazy agile, I tell you! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Return trip! ![]() ![]() ![]() It was a good day for picture taking! |

Okay, since the supercharger should be here hopefully this week (fingers crossed!!), it's time for me to narrow down my goals to what's practical in the scheme of getting the car running and not dealing with too much headache.
Clean, strip, reseal new motor Skull and Bones oil block Cometic MLS Headgasket New intake/exhaust gaskets Clean/Paint/Polish Supercharger Polish upper intake manifold Strip '95 S14 wiring harness/tuck Modify exhaust (hang too low for projected ride height) Clean/Paint/Install new transmission Possible B&M shifter Install GReddy E Manage Ultimate/base tune New fuel lines I think that sums up what needs to be done in the next few months to get the motor in. That being said, if ANYBODY has a 1995 S14 engine harness, I'm looking for one! Obviously it doesn't need to be in perfect condition, but I do need it in working condition with all the bare essentials intact. |

Quote:
At the local Watercooled VW meet last night (happens every Saturday right up the road from my house), the aircooled bugs came out again, but this time they stopped to chat. They were totally loving on my car AND Phil's VIP Mazda Minivan!! I guess that's fair, though... Phil and I were drooling all over their cars, too! They were pretty cool, one of them has seen me cruising around from time to time, and we've exchanged nods and waves before on the road, so it was kinda need to meet him in person. Phil and I were chatting about the build, and we're both really excited to start digging in... This week, I think I'm going to start putting the motor back together. I need to get some things back from Chris (oil pan, intake manifold, etc, etc) so I can clean them, reinforce the oil pan, polish the manifold, etc. It shouldn't take too long to get the motor back together, resealed and re-timed and ready for the supercharger. I still have some painting and polishing to do before it's ready for final assembly, but holding up the lower front cover against the block looks SEXXXYYY!! Ivory on Gold... The upper timing cover is polished to a mirror finish, and I'm thinking that Ivory on all the motor bracketry would look kinda cool... What color should the transmission get? I'm thinking something bright, but not too annoying. You can just barely see it from the engine bay, and while it's out... why not? Obviously the block is gold, and the brackets/front cover are getting Ivory... I'm thinking of doing Ivory on the transmission too... What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?
