215 would be plenty if the car is light, which it better be, though I will stay skeptical for now.
I personally am not sure whether to love or hate the IDx. It is hard to share in dorkidori's praise of the car, because he also thinks that S-chassis on 14" wheels with fender flares look good, and I would rather have Nissan produce a design that looks good to everyone as opposed to a niche audience. Though who knows, maybe people will love it. If it ends up selling well, I will only be happy for Nissan.

Wow, really? Link to said 510 forum anger. If I owned a dime I'd be happy to add this to the collection. im gonna have to agree with corbic on this point. the majority of people i mention my car to (even people in autozone when getting parts) say "oh a 240z". when i correct them with "no, a 240sx", their response is usually "whats a 240sx?"

the 240sx isnt well remembered by the general public at all (which is very unfortunate). automotive enthusiasts tend to have an idea of what the 240sx is/was, but the genpop, forget it!

Fiesta ST is also a 1.6l turbo making 197hp with 26/35mpg.
its based on a general observation. the car has to make AT LEAST 200hp to compete with anything on the market in its general price range for "entry level sports car". nissans prime target is the FRS geared youth market. making it anywhere NEAR the 300hp is a no go. nissan will NOT have the car pushing the same kind of power the new Z will be pushing. 200-235 is a reasonable and realistic guesstimate. again, the new Z chassis/platform is supposed to be put on a major diet to lose weight. that chassis will more than likely be the same platform for the new G/Q coupe as well as the IDx.

harken back to the 90s, the biggest reason we didnt get the 180hp CA18det or the 210hp SR20det in the S-Chassis was the lack of the GTR. nissan didnt want the S Chassis to be a major contender (power wise) to the Z. the GTR wasnt here to level out the playing field like it did in all other markets where a turbo option S-Chassis was available. the 300zx was the luxury sports car, the GTR was godzilla and the S-Chassis was the entry level sports car. all 3 of which leveled the playing field correctly in the sports car market. now that we have the Z AND the GTR, nissan can actually create the proper sports car spread in the US it once had 20 years ago in the rest of the world except in the US & Canadian markets.

we had the SR20 here, it passed just fine. hell, the SR20det passes a sniffer just fine if you run a catalytic converter...i know that for a fact because mine does every year!

no turbo motor in the S-Chassis was 100% marketing based. this information came straight from the mouth of the director of product development in 2008 when i spoke to him for over an hour at SEMA. the CA18det was slated for US release in the (then) new S13 since we already had the CA18de here in the Pulsar. nissan didnt want the S13 to overshadow the (again at the time) new Z32 in terms of value priced performance so the turbo idea was scrapped late in development (hence why we have all the SMIC parts still in our cars). because we lacked the GTR, we didnt have the proper sports car balance in the US. nissan DID have plans to bring the R32 GTR here for a bit during its development, however, they were having a lot of issues with the twin turbo setup interfering with the LHD power steering rack under hard cornering and there were a few minor tidbits about the materials/technologies in the car that werent in agreeance with US regulations and marketing at the time that nissan of japan didnt want to change so the car was scrapped early into US planning. nissan had the twin turbo Z32 slated for US release which was good enough for them as the Z was always considered the "top performer" in this country...

man, the stupid decisions nissan made back in the 80s/90s STILL compare to stupid decisions they make in modern times...le sigh

at least toyota did it right with the supra! NO COMPROMISE!

I'm really digging the IDx Nismo BRE. I just hope with new technology and materials they can get the curb weight down to around 2300 lbs. With a little turbo engine this would be the funnest car around. That will never happen though.

count on a curb weight of 2800-3000lbs after all is said and done. no "normal" production on the market right now tips below 2800lbs, not even the miata (though the next gen miata is supposed to dip down to 2400-2500lbs since the current gen is a frickin HOG)

SR swaps aren't legal because Nissan never bothered to do all the DOT emissions certifications stuff for them because they didn't intend to import any here.

Any proper OEM turbo setup should have better emissions than a similar NA setup, especially the way Nissan's ran so rich in the 80s and 90s.

They added the corporate grill into the design. I was hoping they wouldn't as it's execution hasn't fared to well amongst their recent designs.

the 240sx isnt well remembered by the general public at all (which is very unfortunate). automotive enthusiasts tend to have an idea of what the 240sx is/was, but the genpop, forget it!
Lennon you missed my point. I was saying contrary to Corbics opinion people don't recognize the 240sx as a 240Z they don't recognize it at all. LOL
The mental midgets at Autozone say that because they are not even looking at your car they are just listening to you request a part for it.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding. I was talking about when people actually see the car in person. Most of those people just see it (240sx)t as some old Nissan.
Least you forgot people put 240z together with Datsun, not NIssan. Thanks to the brilliance or lack thereof of Nissan execs in the 80's they created a huge disconnect between the parent company and the Brand name in switching over to Nissan branding from Datsun. People think they are two separate car companies. Just like the brilliant LA PD who pulled my over in my old P10. Thinking it was stolen because it had Nissan Primera badgeing instead of Infiniti G20. They could not figure out why the plate tags came back Infiniti but the car saisd Nissan even on the manufacturing plates

You guys seriously give the general public to much credit. lol

Oh and the vid of the IDX actually rolling and the sound? Man I am starting to want one of these babies Nismo version! You can keep your FRS. The Nismo version has badass written all over it. Kinda like its saying "ya I am the GTR's younger brother want to make something about it? "

I may just have to jump in the M3 and roll over to Petersen Museum right now to see if I can check it out in person.

P.S. I Just got off the phone with the Petersen any one in LA the IDX is there now and will be there till 2-3 P.M. I am getting ready to roll over there to check it out in person.

i THINK the NISMO edition is stick, listen to the exhaust notes when theyre moving the car around, it sounds like normal manual revs

Maybe I'm blind but I didn't see a clutch pedal on the Nismo IDX in that video.

EDIT: I guess it's CVT on the concept model.

Not ugly, but the Nissan aura that I originally fell in love with is no where to be found, which is what I think a lot of people were looking forward to. (1989-2003 japan car styling cues)
