I need a new welder. I found a hobart handler 175 that's about 6-7 yrs old. How much would you guys pay/offer for it? I really don't know how much I should offer. Is 175 good enough to weld crash bars/roll cages?

Throttle body off a 1JZ that I just finished for a customer. Eliminated the traction control, shortened it, and machined in a new bead to hold a coupler on.

When welding exterior panels like s13 rockers, I am having problems blowing through around patch panels. I am currently using a .030 welding wire (miller matic 140). Should I try a smaller diameter welding wire?

Lower your heat and/or move a little faster. Basically its getting too hot and melting them.

Thanks. I tried messing with the heat and wire speed, I even tried using the"auto set" feature. I will try smaller wire.

Try moving fast as well. Basically you are just over heating it to its melting point.

tack it all into place and than just add tacks till its a solid but try and move them around so u don't heat 1 section to much.

I was mostly seeing if that turbo cleared the head and strut towers with a RB30 block swap. The hood would be clearanced on a turbo of that size, if one was used.

Start cheap and practice. How I did it.
If you want to make stuff with steal, good place to start is a welder, even a harbor freight one will work, just something to get the skills down to progress.

Fiberglass, buy resign and a few other things, watch videos on how to do it and again, practice. Thats pretty much it, just practice and let your mind expand.

Solid engine mounts half way done, I have to finish the headers before i can finish the mounts :/ pics before cleaning them

getting bored and this is all in my build thread but what the hell...ill put it up anyway
this is the process i went through to put the s13 subframe underneath the back of my b2000 pickup.

this was what i had for the solid axle that was underneath

put this in just to clean it up and give her a little more strength.

still more to do but at least its taking shape.

bottom view of the passenger side.

bottom drivers side.

put in some gussets

started making the top piece for the strut towers.

this is a view from the top down of the front subrame mounts...wasnt sure how to make these mounts till i stared at it for awhile.

side view

so this is what i cam up with.

outside view

inside frame view

chunk of metal here, chunk of metal there,,,blah blah blah.

and then i ran out of steel , i've got alot of "filling" to do, some cross bracing, a driveshaft and some brakes and we will be good to go!!

passengers side.

drivers side all welded in

passenger side.

some bracing for the towers.

the woman decided she wanted to try welding so i let her...she did a damn fine job too.

and some more bracing for the front sub frame mounts....this piece is further to the top and im gonna come off of this pices and go to the bottom of the front sub frame mount...will be nice and stout.
