People, please stop.

The S15 never came to the US. There has never been a successor to the S14 in America. The 240sx does not have a strong brand image in the US. I doubt anyone outside of enthusiasts remembers the name. WE NEVER HAD A FUCKING turbo SR in the S-Chassis. Not only that, it got to the point where Nissan was marketing these cars to middle aged women. We seem to have this glorious memory of how things were in the US with the S-Chassis which didn't happen.

I dont see anyone asking for an s14 or s15....
I do see mentions of how the new car is ugly and we like the styling of old cars better. like the S15... basically people are saying they wish this new car"IDX" looked nicer like some of nissans previous cars.not the same!!! just nice like some cars have been in the past...

There were distinctly of there time. Everyone had new technology to play with and they used that new tech to market their products.

Things have progressed a long way since then but you wouldn't know it from this forum or how cars are marketed. We've got people here that will tell you the RB20 is the best engine ever put in a car.

At least back then they cared to make engines mildly attractive to look at rather than hide them behind plastic.

i say the same thing about motors now. the plastic covers are shite. i miss the days of having gorgeous red valve covers. it gave enthusiasts a sense of pride in ownership.

car manufacturers that are still using aluminum valve covers dont even bother painting them black anymore. just ugly, unfinished metal covered by a cheap plastic cover.

though from what ive learned over the years, alot of those plastic covers help with channeling heat. without them, the temperatures in the engine bay actually go up and cause sensor issues at times. especially in the bigger V6s and V8s from the likes of lexus and mercedes.

I don't mind unpainted covers. I miss designers and engineers spending an extra few minutes to make something look good. The RWD KA valve and timing covers look great, as do the later RB covers.

You don't need "dress up" parts when the engine itself looks good. You'd think they'd do it just to save money.

I would like if they would even deburr the new valve covers. It's always nice to catch the edge of one and it cuts you like a razor.

Just because the S-chassis did not sell well when it was new here in the 90s has nothing to do with how a proper successor to it may sell today.
It has obviously proven its capabilities and found a completely new audience (Nissan North America is terrible at marketing and selling cars) and there are still more parts being made and sold for it today than for most new cars.
Actually, the fact that a car no one wanted blew up into a such a hot commodity among enthusiasts only proves its worth. There were plenty of Japanese sports cars (actual sports cars, not the sad watered-down shadows of their former glory sold today) being offered in the 90s, and while the 240SX was not even marketed as a sports car, it ended up beating out all of them in terms of popularity and staying power.
There are countless extremely popular products we use every day which were quite misunderstood when they first came out and were close to never seeing the light of day again exactly due to the logic you are propagating.

Had they brought the S15 to America with turbo intact and put it right in front of the Camaro and Mustang for America to judge it could have been a force to be reckoned with.

But they didn't and here we are, again discussion the past 240SX and rwd coupes.

Those are some good pics of the MR motor. I haven't seen it before outside of the engine bay. Just looking at the pics I can easily see it setup in a longitudinal configuration. Make some tweaks to the manifolds and rework some of the plumbing.

RX-7 rumor is back....

Is this the new Mazda RX-7?

With all the rumors CONSTANTLY going around for a new RX-7 and Silvia it's honestly kind of amazing that Mazda and Nissan haven't found excuses to make them. Clearly there is a demand for the product, people wont shut up about wanting them.

Seeing that Mazdas CEO came out and said rotaries wont work in todays world of gas mileage and emissions this is a pipe dream. IDx is much closer to production than some rumors of a car a year out

That looks like a SLS . . And I think Rotary is dead in the modern age.
I work with a guy who loves his juke. He smashes it EVERYWHERE. You can change the boost control in the head unit...or so he says. There is NO room in the back of those tho.

you gotta keep in mind the type of people that run the bean counting departments. the higher ups dont give a shit about entry level cars (they all drive luxury shit boxes), the majority of the folks that work in those departments ARE NOT enthusiasts...hell, the majority of "corporate" folks think that using a key to start a car and putting it into D is TOO technical!

the automobile for the most part anymore is no longer a device that demands attention, skill and devotion to learn...its a fuking appliance that should work by itself (or rather DRIVE itself).

I think a lot of people in the U.S. mistakenly lump the 240sx Fastback in with the SIlvia when they say bring back the Silvia. Though they did share the chassis the distinctive differences in the looks definitely affected sales of one versus the other. Fastbacks either 240sx or 180sx were immensely more popular.

I think we recognize that the change in body style doesn't necessitate a change in name and brand. If they can make different body styles make business sense then by all means bring more styles to the dealer.

I wouldn't say wankels are dead so much as the one company making them has run out of ideas to make them better. I think as new technologies emerge the wankel will reemerge.

Rumor I heard was it was coming stateside. The only problem I see is its an Alfa. Good handling, NIce designs, completely unreliable but great sounding with decent power when working.
Its like the bastard child of Ferrari. Oh and ya from the VId I do fucking like it. I love the "and its not a Porsche Caymen and that's what the world really needs"

I hate how they look and am not keen on owning a brand new unreliable car. I'd hate for a car like that to come here and fail and be touted as proof that Americans don't want sports cars.

Reliability will be fine. Your views are a bit outdated.

The only issue is going to be no one here can afford one at $54-64k.

Really? You do realize most of the Alfa's released in Europe prior to this had issues. I love how you just automatically dismiss. We have yet to see. So really neither of us has a true to answer except to say that my views are based on Alfa's past history and yours are based on what. Your assumption things have changed.

Any and all credibility is now called into question.

By no means do you have to agree with anything they say but how could you have not heard of the magazine or show?

I'm well aware of the show. I just consider it to be the Honey Boo Boo of auto journalism. Reality TV based around cars for the masses.

So for anyone to reference them (good or bad) in an automobile discussion destroys any credibility. You wouldn't reference Jersey Shore for life guidelines, would you?
