Largest tires you have fit on an s14 thread

Simple as that. What are the largest tires YOU HAVE fit on the front of an s14, with ONLY rolled fenders.

NO pulls
NO overfenders.

Please post

Rim size, width, and offset
Tire size

thanks!

285/30/R18 on 18x10 +11

Looking for bigger rims to fit a 305 up front with 335's in back. That will probably require cutting/ flaring though. Whoever says stagger setups are bad on a 240sx is driving too slow.

Ace in hole- you are a fucking G. How low were you and did you have any rubbing issues at full lock? Do you autocross with those?

Everyone is trying to tell me to run a 225/40/18 but i actually want traction up front. I have a 245/45/18 plus 22 offset on my front rims at the moment, and was thinking they wouldn't fit. After reading the above, i'm pretty sure my tires(although a little tall) will fit. I might just cough up the money and get a set of new tires though.

I'm worried about daily driving with ruff roads and i'm debating between
a 245/40/18 and a 255/35/18.. Opinions? Should i go a lil wider with a 35 series tire to help save the rim?

Thanks fellas. Appritiate your time.

gotta240 - how wide is ur rim? Going wider and thinner isn't saving anything, unless the rim is waaay wide - you wanna save a rim (from potholes, etc) run the taller tire

Jeffmilano- My front rim is 9.5 plus 22 offset.

Actually, when you run a 35 series wide tire in a 245, and 255 width, the one with the 255 width will be TALLER and help save the rim.

The Height is just the PERCENTAGE of the WIDTH. SO, a 205/45/18 tire is actualy NOT AS TALL as a 310/35/18.

What i dont understand, is WHY people run a 225/40/18 on these rims? Seriously, isn't it just all the fad? i dont see a purpose to it at ALL. And the sidewall flex is bs if you ask me.... So why?

I've run 275/40/R17 up front (17x9 +8 offset) and the current 285/30/R18 up front (18x10 +11). Anything higher than a +11 offset on an 18x10 up front may hit the coilover.

The tires in my pics are Kumho V710's, which are slightly wider than "normal" tires. Offsets I list take into account spacer thickness (I.e. +30 wheel -19mm spacer).

The reason I run 18's up front is the overall diameter is smaller than the 275/40/R17. On 240's, you're limited to tire size as far as how low you can lower the car. With the 285/30/R18's, I can get dangerously low (Greddy lip comes close to scraping on some courses). I'm also limited by frame rail, currently. My fenders seem to clear fine with a big pull. If I go to a larger tire size I'll have to make some custom fenders, but the frame rail may still limit my suspension setup, which I don't like.

I don't really have any input on daily driving with those tire sizes. I have 17x8's with 235/45/R17's for that. R-compound tires don't take to street driving very well.

hey ace,

can you comment on the differences in 'turn-in' and steering capabilities with a 285 up front compared to your 235s you run on the street? are you experiencing mad understeer b/c of the width? what power are you putting down that you'd need tires so wide?

oh i know...i'm personally going for 225/40/18 but figured i'd like to hear the reason behind going so wide...seems to be a waste but maybe there is a function?!?!? function i will probably never ever need!!!

can't compare street tires to DOT competition tires. Turn-in with the 285's is nuts due to the stiffer sidewall and sheer traction.

Quote:

Without the tire stagger in the current setup, oversteer is the issue I need to resolve. A small amount of dialed in understeer is actually preferred regardless of tire stagger, though.

It's a stock fender with a big roll/ pull :P

Completely stock I had issues when the car was my daily driver, slammed on 245's.

Hey Ace, thanks again for your time in this thread and for not flaming.

What size rims were you running when you had rubbing issues on the 245's and how tall were they? When you mean completly stock, does that mean not even a rolled fender?

So from your experience with fitment(apparently more than all of zilvia combined!) do you think i will have issues with a

9.5, plus 17 offset with a 245/45/18 tire with only rolled fenders? I know that tire is a little tall(just temporary), but what do you think the widest tire i could fit with that setup? I'm leaning towards a 255/35 but would like a little imput before i drop 4 bills on 2 tires.

thanks again man. Your saving me lots of time/frustration and money!

GS Racer- are those specs from the REAR or FRONT?

I'm wondering about the fronts. It seems the front fenders are stock, with a roll. Right? Whats the widest you've gone without rubbing issues? thanks again.

Question for every/anyone. 255/35 or 245/40 tires in the front for daily driving on somewhat ruff roads?
