Since I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about, none of what I 'know' must be factual, so given that, it won't hurt the sale of your car.
That being the case, I'm going to lay it ALL out for you (and your potential customers).

First: initial cost of the car.

Stock, AT, no wheels, ¥50000 - will probably end between ¥80000-100000 (<$900)
Mostly stock with a few mods - BUY NOW for $1560
Lowered, exhaust, wheels GT-R face - BUY NOW for ~$2175
Stock/lowered/exhaust This will end up selling for ~$1900. The price listed is basically what they want, hence the long time left on the auction.
For clarity's sake, THIS is a GTS. 4 lug, RB20DE, worthless.
Now THIS is closer to being worth $12k in the US. TommyKaira M20.

So, that car was probably sold here for $1000-1500, MAX.

Now to get a car to the US, there's a few ways to do it, but the way you're likely going is they grey-market approach. It's technically illegal to do it how you're doing it, but intent must be proven so it's a fairly viable route.

Anyway, you've got to deregister a car first, so I'll use one of the BUY NOW cars as an example. Let's go with the one with the GT-R face for $2175. Now, shipping in Japan will probably cost me $500 so let's add that on.

$2675.

You have it shipped to a dismantler shop who removes engine, doors, and both front & rear subframes. While this is taking place, you can take the plates into the Land Transportation Office and deregister the car. This costs ~$15, and if JCI/Road Tax/Weight tax are current, you get some money back. Radical. Let's just say we got $15 so the cost evens out.

Now let's add $500 for processing by the dismantler.

$3175

Then you order your container. Let's say you go the expensive route and get one 20' container for the car, and nothing else. That alone is $3k.

$6175

So the container comes and you load it up. Now contrary to the fairy tale (whoops I mean 'ACTUAL FACT') that you mentioned, there are no inspectors to get the shipment by, whether by magic or by bribery. Just like the registration doesn't have to be 'destroyed, somehow (with money)'.
If ANYTHING, they'll simply log the contents of the container and send it off to its ship. So long as you're not marking it 'human cargo/sex slaves bound for North Korea/etc' they don't really give a shit.
Now it goes to the boat and floats around the ocean for a few months.

Now the boat has arrived at Long Beach harbor, and your container must clear customs. Now since you sent the shipment as 'used parts', you have to pay 3% tax on everything you have in the container. Neat part there is that you get to determine your own value. Let's say you went with actual value, so $2175. That's $65.25, so let's round that to $100.

$6275
Now that it's cleared customs (you filthy liar!) and you've paid your import fees, you're ready to receive the container, so you hire Joe's trucking to bring it to you. Let's call that an extra $500.

$6775

Joe brings the container himself, and leaves it for a day while you offload it. Let's say that's a $100 fee.

$6875.

Now you and your goons offload the container of all the parts, bring them back into your garage/shop/camping tent/dumpster, and start assembling.

Let's say you need $125 worth of stuff to get the car back together and running.
$7000

Now let's add in some magical fairytale bribes along the way, along with some extra hidden costs for $3k.
Now markup $2k and you're at $12k.

Hey rad! We're ready to sell. Now to find a sucker who's willing to buy a grey market car they can't register legally (except in Canada) and can't insure without lying about it.

As you can see, I took the most expensive route in every way I could and I STILL had to make up $3k worth of bullshit fees.

There are shipping companies that will ship entire cars to the US for $1500. There's some flubbing to be done, for sure but it's way cheaper. You could also get a 40' container for less cost per square foot, and ship 2 cars plus a few hundred cubic feet of room to throw parts in. That route would run you ~$5-6k or so, but then you get 2 cars across, and a bunch of parts to sell.

I could probably get an R32 to the states for $3k after all is said and done, and since I'm not going to buy an expensive one here, My all-in cost will be <$5k. Yay for $7k profit.

I was playing nice and didn't want to ruin your chance for a sale, but you decided to be a dick and threw it in my face with your 'superior knowledge'.
You want to kick sand in my face, I'll drop a dumptruck's worth on you.

Good luck selling that $2k car here now.

owned!!!! +1!!!!

All this bickering. Is this a feminist forum? Let him sell his car as he wants. I don't see it as a bad price for something they don't readily sell here. They may be cheap in Japan, but in the States, it is a little more difficult to aquire. It really is all about supply and demand. Do you remember how much the Evos were going for when they were first released in the US? This seems mild compared to that.

Sure he can sell the car for whatever he wants, but as was said above why would anyone want to spend over $10K for a grey market vehicle that will technically NOT be legal. I would have never said anything but this idiot wanted to come on here and pretty much spit in the face of someone that was trying to help him[mrmeph]. You never know what someone else knows/ or info they have access to. I know a bit about importing cars from Japan and this guy wants to say "stfu if you dont know what your talking about" ? Well I do. So I said something. It's the internet. Bickering maybe, if you want to call it that. Sadly I'm sure someone will pay him for the car. It's just not worth what he wants for it, and thats a fact. Not an opinion.

dont want to crap on your post but nobody here will buy it for that much, especially not registered.. now if you had it registered of course illegally.. but at least have something for it.. you may have a better chance of selling for that price.. other then that for the asking price good luck..

Now if you brough this car in as an investment to sell it and are justifying your cost of how much you spent to explain the selling price.. it still doesnt make sense.. no what leaves japan is very questionable.. tons of deals are made at junkyards and primarily they are run by certain individuals.. so to get a carrier to drop off an empty and load it up is no big deal.. now you definitely wouldnt ship this in a 20'ft.. its probably coming in a 40'ft along with other misc shit piled in there under an existing importer here in states that has been bringing parts for years.. already verified w/us customs so chance of that container getting pulled over for intentsive exam is slim.. maybe for x-ray but no big deal.. most likely it will make it here no prob.. even if they loaded an entire container with a complete car.. once the can is loaded at departure port.. its going straight to terminal to be loaded on a vessel period.. problem may arrise upon its arrival here.. but then again with us customs not quite watching every container and especially not keeping an eye on all importers over the years its a "loose process" so yes ton of them get away with it and thats how most of these complete cars get here to begin with..thats why you are not going to see a JOHN DOE trying to arrange his own CAN from Japan or any other country and attempting to bring it in his own name as first time importer.. he is bound the get fucked by customs, thats just how it goes.

Well he can sell it for what he wants. I mean if he throws alittle on top that can be expected for his time and work he had to do it get it over.3K over is way to over but, all in all he can put whatever price he wants. Their can be collectors out there or people who have rich parent who will just buy them whatever( im not talking about" Why not just buy a ferrari then" but like, Hey dad THATS the car i want.) those type of people. GL with your sale.

damn guys if this is a gts-t thats about the going rate on this side. you dont even want it registered because it just wont work. most that are i garauntee are not done legally. you dont want to get caught doing that. great for a track car.

i dont come here to often so i dont care, but everyone will argue forever with me on this. you can not legally register this car. it can be done in many many ways but none of which is completely straight. ive never heard of anyone actually getting busted on it but if you do your looking at jail time and no more car.

but seriously this is a good buy. just take a day to look into what is involved in getting any car over here. notice he had to pull some shifty stuff and pay an assload to do it. go seriuosly research this, not like the guy who just goes on a forum and asks how he can import a car.

3 sites to look through, US customs EPA and DOT.

I totally agree on getting it for a track car for the reason you stated and that has been stated 10 times above - it's not legal and won't be. As far as the price well we know my feelings on that. But as I said before I don't think he'll have a problem getting what he wants for it. I hope this site wasn't his only means of advertisement because if so he's only selling himself short.

Isnt this car at GSPEED CORP? They import cars to the US right? If this seller is simply a "customer" of GSPEED CORP and is attempting to make some money off a car he doesnt even own that would be un-fair to both buying and selling parties becuase they have now concluded with a "middle-man"?

Even a 3000 dollar car in japan your looking to spend about 10g's total to bring it over. And I'll even show you how
-first you have to buy the car
-then you have to take it to the shipping company
-It is illegal to ship over registered cars so the cars registeration has to be destroyed, Some how. (with money)
-also whole cars cannot be imported either unless you can sneak it in with toyotas, nissan,or hondas shipments.
-but we actually bring it in as a parts car.
-so we also have to pay for a shop in japan to pull the motor and doors off, Now I do not have a connection on mechanics in japan so I pay the full amount for that.
Now even with the engine out and doors off It will not pass inspection. The inspectors in japan has to be payed off just so that it can be off on its way back to america.

Yes this is already a lot of money spent.
but then we havent even started on the shipping yet.
The going rate on a container that fits a single car is 3000+ for shipping
and then you have to account in for tax in japan. And its a very wierd tax but your looking at like another 1500.(some kind of import tax)

In other words stfu, you don know wat your talking about. L

yeah thats right, you pay off the inspector in japan. HAHAHAHA!!!!

my friend will part the car for 80,000 yen. he works besides kazama auto if you want to check it.

alright alright, sorry.

either you think we're stupid or you just got jacked on the price you exporting that car over here.

good luck with the sale, i thikn ur better off with ebay on this one.

Good luck selling that $2k car here now.
Some people might be willing to pay an extra 3 k because

1. They have no idea how to get a container
2. They are lazy
3. They don't want to make the first initial risk of losing a container damage product from drop containers, damage through shipping
4. They don't want to constantly check for when their container comes in
5. They don't want the risk of having 1-2 + months stuck in customs cuz they think you are smuggling stolen cars
6. They have money and don't give a fuck
7. know of a fan boy that they can flip the car to for 5 k more
8. Using it for a track only car and has a cushy wallet
9. Fan boy with mommy and daddy's money
10. All the above...

As for the rest of these people on the forum who like to bitch about a prices who have no intentions of buying. They are crying about this post because

1. Jealousy
2. Bored
3. A little bitch
4. Knows someone that knows someones cousin who knows a friend in the military who knows a guy in japan who knows a guy who owns a used car lot in japan and heard from that guy who knows this guys cousin who talked to the guy in the military who talked to the guy in japan, who bought an R32 for cheap from the guy who owns a used car lot in japan and can have it shipped for cheaper.

People paid 10k over msrp when the evo came state side. Who the hell pays over 45k for an evo? Little kids that have access to their parents pocket books.
