It's funny how Cali is so proud of all their laws/enforcement but when the check comes they run out on the bill...lol Maybe Arnold should make a few movies and have his wages garnished to cover the deficit.

No way. I bet they are just formulating a way to make it more efficient to profile car enthusiasts. I think if the cali state ref becomes no more they will just transfer the power to CHP which could end up being just as bad or worse. Car profiling generates a lot of revenue for the state so why stop? Its easy money.

what will happen next?

easy...

your outstanding ref tickets will have pending notices maybe extra extensions will be given...

new ref tickets will have longer due dates...

in a few months everything will be back to normal....

I to am wondering about this. My buddy was ready to pay his fine after not being able to keep his KA from throwing codes. All this after swapping his KA back in. Cop only wrote him for exhaust though.
I am hopeing that he will not have to pay the fines and get a pass on this one.

if u check the state website, they are cutting back on hella things. Students getting cal grants and all of that are getting shafted. Cal grants and UC transfers, states and community college students are taking a toll from these budget cuts. For non college students with modified cars this could be a god send but it could turn ugly. I feel lucky about the whole ref thing but bad about the whole CHP thing, which is a high possibility, and the college studnets that need the states help for education.

i agree with drift freaq and unwed_transient... arnie signed an executive order that layed off thousands of temp and part-time state employees at the end of july. but, most of the people will be getting their jobs back when the budget is signed and then referee services will be back in business. don't get your hopes up too high, they'll be back.. haha.. btw, fyi the budget was signed august 24th last year .

Spoken for truth. Come October the refs will be back in action, in fact according to what I read today around 20 minutes ago while having coffee. The State controller says there is just enough money to last till October albeit while not completely broke the state is on pretty thin ice budget wise. They have to balance the budget by then. Arnold is making the cuts he is making to prod the legislature into taking action to come to terms on a budget.
California has a long history of Budget battles like this and this years is just worse due to factors I stated earlier.

ITS CALLED STATE BUDGET CUTS, THE FUCKING STATE IS BROKE AND IN DEBT! Sorry for the caps, but if any of you had bothered following the news or reading a newspaper in the last couple of weeks, you would have read about state employee job cuts.

Job cuts due to state being broke and not having the budget to pay these people.

This is Arnolds attempt to get nearer to balancing the state budget for the next year.
The downturn in the economy and the real estate market plus the rise in the cost of oil and other commodities is killing the the tax revenue base.

This is part of those cuts. This is why this is happening. plain and fucking simple.

Try reading the newspaper on a daily basis and you will know the reasons for things like this.
Maybe Arnold will finally figure shit out that he needs to cut all the pork off the government. Maybe with the state having less money, they will stop making all this big brother bullshit laws. Cali is so fucked right now, state needs to focus on a few things at a time instead of trying to get their hands into every fucking cookie jar out there. Pump the money into fixing the state economy first and foremost.

Ray I could not agree with you more. Fact is they spend to much time trying to appease every damn far left liberal that falls off the boat.

For Example: Someones bright idea as part of the newer Green laws was to force Automotive body shops to start using Water based paint and air drying because its more environmently friendly.

Now don't get me wrong here I am for protecting the Environment but this was just some senators idea of more of a overall Green law without even knowing how little impact automotive paint shops have on the overall air quality or environment.

Another one which was completely political was the Senator from Fresno that wants to start making people smog cars pre 1975 because it looks like he is pro environment.
All the while he is fighting CARB to keep them from putting smog equipment on Farm equipment i.e. trucks and tractors.
Even though the central valley which Fresno resides in has absolutely terrible air quality i.e. smog because of said farm equipment.
Which have no smog stuff on them at all. Asshole wants to make cars pay so he can look good. While the farm lobby is lining his pockets. Porkbarrel politics, Sacramento is Famous for it.

Exhaust ticket is way different than an illegal modifications to engine bay ref.

I know a few members on here that have gotten ref tickets recently that have gotten them signed off simply by going to a local smog shop.

So yeah, they still hand them out, but it's really pointless, unless it's an exhaust or broken window ticket.

I guess this would explain why I haven't gotten my ticket for the ref in the mail? You are supposed to get your ticket w/ info in the mail 21 days after the said ticket, I still have not gotten mine yay! But now I have no idea what to expect...

go to the clerk/court office. I thought that too and I had a warrant for my arrest. Go and make an appt to see the judge . You are suppose to go in within 21 days and decide if you wanna pay up front or dispute the ticket. If you are in dispute you set a court appt to then enter your plea.

Well, I got a ref ticket back in June.

Lagged because I was caught up with work and on going projects.

I go back to stock to get it reffed, but had no idea this had happened up until yesterday afternoon.

Today, I go out to get my fix-it exhaust ticket written off by a CHP.

They tell me to go to a ref since they can't sign off the exhaust ticket because I have a ref ticket on it as well.

My court date is on 8/11/08.

WTF do I do?

I mean, my car would easily pass the ref test.

Eh, I don't feel like paying the fines since I know I can pass it.

talked to my friend who is going to smog tech school.. he said they announced this in class the other night, said there is no word when it will be brought back.. so its could be temporary. If it last for a few years ill be happy lol.. Id think it would take a few years for the budget to catch up
