I can see how the money savings is appealing. Think about what kind of driving you will be doing. If you plan to autox, do track days, or carve backroads, a good set of shocks is the best investment you can make for handling. If you are more likely to be found revving down the boulevard and doing a couple "other" events a year, maybe it is worth skimping. It just sucks that the s14 has so few USDM options for high quality dampers! If it makes you feel any better, I'll be spending, on shocks, what you will on your whole set up?

Another thing to consider may be used springs. Unlike shocks, springs are not really a wear item. Maybe you could but a deal with someone selling some and talk them down. Just a thought -
