Same thing with drag racing right? One routine.

I believe that would also apply to road racing? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there usually is one IDEAL line, and one tries to drive that line as much as possible.

So conclusion: DonFactory wins.

hahaha...that's funny...danmit!! and all this time i coulda been with models.. ..stupid wrinkly breasts..lol..

charlie, great picture!..

i'm glad it's getting more exposure..i think it'll come to a happy median..especially when some of the hype dies down and the next fad comes up...i don't think drifting will ever drop off the map...but i think, like with most MOTORSPORTS, it will come to a place where the dedicated do it, the interested try it, and the lazy leave it alone..

ummmm whatever....

Once again: http://maddox.xmission.com/opinion1.gif

dragracing is a sport as there are actual units of measurement. Called seconds.

Drifting might be fine. It might be even cool. It might be even more fun than dragracing, grip driving, rally and what not. If you people are having fun at it, more power to ya. Like i said I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DRIFTING. I have a problem with calling drifting a sport. Can everybody get it to their tiny brains? Never did i rag on drifting. If u thought i did, reread all my posts. Blah. I say its not a sport, and suddenly everybody decides i hate it and tries to prove to me how wrong im. You ppl suck. As if i care about what u say anyways just a really boring day at work hehe

And yeah, opinions are like assholes
Not to mention arguing on the internet is retarded hehe

edit: oh and the reason why i said i like rallyx more than drifting is simple: watching professional drifters is more boring than watching WRC

sooo
requires a clock for it to be a sport
so if you time my difts around a track, then its a sport?
because that's done in japan

and what about gymkhana? that's not a sport too right?

oh wait....

hahaha

btw, which professional drifting have you watched? seen it in person? ever ride w/ a professional rally driver? ever ride w/ a professional drifter?

ummm u either are slow, or just trying to look like that way? You perfectly know what i mean. Sport - performance that actually can be measured in units. Hockey is a sport and not cuz there is a time limit. And measuring your time doesnt do jack shit as u arent looking for the fastest time around the corner, cuz then u won't be drifting.

i thought of answering your other questions but then thought of what i wrote in the previous paragraph about arguing over the internet and decided not to

look up 'sport' in a dictionary

sport:
1. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
A particular form of this activity.

2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

3. An active pastime; recreation.

I'll just paraphrase from other arguements made at the GRM board:

Are you trying to say that things like skateboarding or surfing, or even things like gymnastics aren't sports because much like drifting, they're based on style?

Drifting is based on style, yes, but like the other sports I named, they are deeply rooted in technical aspects.

Any jackass can get a RWD car sideways, just the same as any jackass can get on a skateboard and go down the street, or any jackass can put on a football helmet and run down a field. Not every jackass can be good at what it is they're doing.

The "sport" comes from people getting together and doing the same activity competitively.

Here, figure this one out:

sport (spôrt, sprt)
n

1.
a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

A particular form of this activity.
b. A particular form of this activity.

2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

3. An active pastime; recreation.

Anyone else upset that Charlie didn't scan the other pages for us to see.

And drifting is a sport when done competitively and only when done competitively. It's kind of like this. I'm a surfer but I don't call it a sport when I do it, but when I see Kelly Slater and Rob Machado rippin it up in Tahiti, trying to do the best they can on one wave, showing off their surf style for the judges, this is when it turns into a sport.

For me, much like surfing, drifting is kind of like a lifestlye, especially since these things consume my thoughts all the time. Take it for what it's worth...and it's worth more than 2 cents cuz I'm always right, ALWAYS!!!

And if you're wondering why I didn't feel like mentioning soccer, it's because I'm so damn good at it, it ain't a competition any more.

doh. Then i guess masturbation is a sport. silly me. :hammer:

Its funny how only the drifters themselves (oh and magazines/channels and what not who dont really give a shit as long as it makes them money) consider it a sport, while the rest of the world does not. Well i guess i'll call my coding skills "hacking" just cuz i can, even though they got nothing to do with it

and it's funny how the majority of those who don't are motorsport elitest types who seem to have an issue with anything which may possibly infringe on the purity of whatever they happen to be into...it's like your affraid of the motorsport world being tarnished by something different...

i remember the same thing when i started snowboarding all those many years ago..skier after skier insisted it was a stupid kids things and not a true sport...guess times change..i'm sure this, and your opinion (unless you really ARE that dense), will do the same...

"oh no, it's something NEW; god forbid! it's not 'this' or 'that' or it lacks 'this' so it can't be a sport. not like my precious autox in a parking lot where WE try to dodge cones for fear of those darn penalties which add time (which makes us a sport) to our runs. damn those kids!"

going by webster's f'n dictionary it's a sport, and it involves motor vehicles. so yes, it's a motorsport

argue all you want, it's all opinions anyway. i hate nascar, but it's unfortunately still a popular form of motorsports.

First, who are all the "outside people" who don't consider drifting a sport? Because that might be that you are only looking at a small population. I'm sure you didn't go to all 50 states, take a poll, and take the mean of that. And don't say lots of people in the message boards agree w/ you, because that would go along w/ what you said that only a "certain type of person/people" agree w/ u, or rather, the people who do/dont do that sport Secondly, why exactly do you care so much? I don't see why you should care so passionately about something that you don't even do or condole as a sport, leave it alone
And lastly, if you want something to measure, ok, a car passes another during a drift; a car doesn't pass another during a drift, simple 'nuff.
-Jay
