Other cards are giving out R7 240/250's or 500GB HDs with purchase of a R9 290x. You know prices are crazy when they are giving away $100 cards with the purchase of a card.

BF4 mantle
Test case 1: Low-end single-player CPU/GPU: AMD A10-7850K (‘Kaveri’ APU), 4 cores @ 3.7 GHz Settings: 720p MEDIUM settings. OS: Windows 7 64-bit Level: Singapore “Beach” This area is heavy on the CPU as it is quite a lot of action going on, but the game is primarily GPU-bound both on DX and with Mantle but thanks to GPU optimizations with Mantle we get a good performance improvement. Result: 26.6 ms/f -> 23.3 ms/f = 14% faster Test case 2: Standard 64-player multiplayer CPU: AMD FX-8350, 8 cores @ 4 GHz GPU: AMD Radeon 7970 3 GB Settings: 1080p ULTRA 1x MSAA OS: Windows 8 64-bit Level: Siege of Shanghai Level was tested with 64 “pseudo players” that we have for our own internal testing that simulates heavy game workload that we have in multiplayer in order to get more deterministic results compared to full real multiplayer. 64 players on the large Battlefield levels is really demanding of the CPU so this test case is primarily CPU-bound. Result: 18.87 ms/f -> 15.08 ms/f = 25.1% faster Test case 3: High-end single-player with multiple GPUs CPU: Intel Core i7-3970x Extreme, 12 logical cores @ 3.5 GHz GPU: 2x AMD Radeon R9 290x 4 GB Settings: 1080p ULTRA 4x MSAA OS: Windows 8 64-bit Level: South China Sea “Broken Flight Deck” This single-player scene is heavy on both the CPU and GPU with lots of action going on. Test was done on the highest end Intel CPU on Windows 8, which is the fastest option before Mantle thanks to DirectX 11.1. Still this CPU is not fast enough to keep the 2 290x GPUs fed at 1080p on Ultra settings so we get a significant CPU performance bottleneck which results in major performance improvement when enabling Mantle. Result: 13.24 ms/f -> = 8.38 ms/f = 58% faster Mantle renderer now available in Battlefield 4 - News - Battlelog / Battlefield 4 |

With 13.12 and the new 14 beta drivers. Least with the beta drivers I have debugging so I can recover from the crash without BSODing the whole computer. Reading the error log it's an issue with BF4 and not the drivers. Found other reports of the same error. Scared to switch it to mantle as my friends all have had the micro stuttering issues. This is really pissing me off. IF it wasn't for the Miners keeping ATI card prices so high I would probably have another card. Now I have two reasons not to invest in another one. I haven;t had an issue with a ATI GPU since I switched from Nvidia many years ago.

This cannot bode well for Amd in the long run.

AMD is not screwing themselves though. Its the retailers. MSRP is still the same. Newegg, Amazon, etc are the ones jacking up the price. What is going to happen is that when the mining bubble bursts, people are going to flood the market with graphics cards and new stock will not sell.

In other news two of my 7970 mining cards are dead and the third might be. Had a power surge that finally took them out, I think. They've already more than paid themselves off. I hate to say it but I only gamed on the one set for all of 4 hours total. |

How long did you have them for? I'd love to snap up a cheap 280x or 290x, but I've heard that mining is tough on cards. You may have only gamed 4 hours, but I know it would become my main machine for gaming.

looks like NVidia will help some damage control with the price hikes since they like to overprice their cards, anyways. amd could have just hashed out a mining card to begin with. |

what the fuck... 4224 stream processor !!! 264 texture unit!!! 96 rop!!!! and 7 ghz!!!
The colleagues over at WccfTech posted something about the next generation Radeon graphics cards. They dug up an old (what is claimed to be) roadmap which shows details about three GPUs, the R9 390X, R9 380X and R9 370X. There is no validation regarding the source material and their post is highly speculative. Then again .. rumors always start somewhere and props to them for retrieving that info. Now in their news item posted they already claim themselves that all information is to be taken with a pinch of salt, which really is the proper way to address this information. The source leak indicates future Pirate Islands GPU code names and some specs. Specs NEVER are final which makes me frown up-on the posted material, anyway here's what they are claiming: -- According to these details all GPUs will be based on the TSMC 20nm Node and will be true Pirate Island cores, which is why nomenclature of the dies will be derivative in nature. Another thing mentioned is that all Pirate Island GPUs will have the DirectX 12 Hardware Feature Set. According to these details the R9 370X is slated for announcement/arrival sometime this July-August this year. The R9 370X will feature a ‘Treasure Island XTX’ core and supposedly has 1536 Stream-processors, 96 Texture Units and 48 ROPs on the uncut die. Of course this road-map precedes the report we got of TSMC having a little trouble with 20nm so I am not sure how valid the time frame is anymore. Now according to the details, we will see the R9 390X before the R9 380X. The R9 390X will feature the ‘Bermuda XTX’ core and feature a staggeringly high number of SPs, ie. 4224. The Texture Unit count is 264 with 96 ROPs. It is slated to show up late 2014 around November or so. Once again keep in mind the TSMC comment above. Finally the R9 380X which will feature the ‘Fiji XTX’ core and the following die configuration: 3072 SPs, 192 Texture Units and 72 ROPs and should appear sometime early 2015. Now interestingly the R9 390X ‘Bermuda XTX’ GPU is slated to have 512 Bits of Memory Bandwidth while as the R9 380X is slated to have 384 Bits with the R9 370X coming last with 256 Bits. Now the road-map even hints at the clock speeds of AMD’s future GPUs but I think it is prudent to mention that all these tech specs at this point in time are about as solid as the wind. However let us continue, with the help of this table: GPU Codename Core Stream Processors* Texture Units* ROPs* Core Clock* Memory Clock* Memory Bandwidth* R9 370X Treasure Island Treasure Island XTX 1536 96 48 ~900Mhz ~5Ghz 256Bit R9 380X Fiji Fiji XTX 3072 192 72 ~900Mhz ~6Ghz 384Bit R9 390X Bermuda Bermuda XTX 4224 264 96 ~1000Mhz ~7Ghz 512Bit http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/amd...00_series.html |
