first it depends on budget as many have said
second it depends on what he generally likes (no point in getting him rotas if he's all about 'no knock offs', and if he likes rice or not, etc...)

I'd just suggest something like a GoPro/good dash cam. Good for him if he drives a lot around bad drivers, nice to use to record scenic drives, or when he's driving in autox, drift, etc...
