I don't think its fake but I don't think the police built the car either, I think it was donated by the nissan dealer thats listed as a special thanks on the back, and that dealer probably had some younger salesman "hook up" the car. it's probably going to be a publicity or PR car for when the police are present at fairs, open houses, etc and it probably won't see too much street time as an actual cruiser. as for the names being erased he may have done that to save his ass from getting in trouble.

NISMO & ZENKIDORI are right...this 350Z police car is used for the DARE program. It doesn't have lights & sirens on it, (yet), but that's an option the police department can choose to add if they want to. The vehicle was donated to the police department as a Public Relations vehicle by Nissan North America. The police department that "owns" it covers it's emblem and puts out of service stickers on the side of the door when the vehicle is not in use at public presentations so as to prevent the general public from calling and complaining that their tax dollars are being unnecessarily spent. Seems everyone in the general public seems to think that police cars should only come in Ford Crown Victorias & Chevy Caprice Classics...???.
Anyhow, I talked to the uniformed police officer that was driving this vehicle & he told me that their department has gotten SOOOO many complaints about this vehicle. Even though this car USED to have the words Donated Vehicle on the back & sides people would still call & complain. The Chief of the department finally got sick & tired of the complaints that he told the uniformed officer to cover up the decals when the car was out on the road. The Z is primarily used for the DARE program, but if the officer wanted to, he could always call on his police radio & have a regular black & white pull someone over. A police officer is still a police officer no matter what vehicle he drives.
As for unusual police vehicles, I'ld hate to be pulled over by these two.....

In the technical sense of the word, these "ARE" police vehicles because of the markings and lights & siren.

He also told me that their department has gotten SOOOO many complaints about this vehicle because people think that the police department paid for this vehicle when in actually it was DONATED to them. The Z is primarily used for the DARE program, but if the officer saw someone doing something stupid while driving down the road, that he could always call on his police radio & have a regular black & white pull sthat driver over. A police officer is still a police officer no matter what vehicle he drives.

Hahahaha....That's a GOOD question!!!

Next time I get the chance to look at that Z police car I'm popping the hood & checking!!! I didn't get the chance to that night cuz of the late hour, but I'm pretty sure that I'll get to see the Z police car again sometime soon. The police officer driving the car gave me his business card.

make a citizens arrest. Tell him that his car is not street legal and that you need to see the carb sticker for his turbo or twins.

Different cars are used by a variety of police agencies. Here in the U.S. the main choice is obviously the Crown Vic, but others are used for certain areas also. For example, you might see STi's, Corvette's, Mustangs, Camaros, GTO's, Durango's, Explorers, and others. In Japan, they have used NSX's, Skylines, Rx-7's, 3000GT's, and others.

As mentioned earlier, programs such as D.A.R.E. or others also get in on the fun and do up other cars to attract attention and awareness to their cause.

Here in Delaware, we use an old punch buggy. Pretty corny but hey, the thing's a classic!
